Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Epidemiologist to support statewide public health initiatives focused on substance use, overdose prevention, and related health outcomes.
The Epidemiologist will lead epidemiologic and statistical analyses using multiple healthcare and public health datasets. The position will evaluate the effectiveness and impact of public health interventions and translate complex data into actionable findings for program teams and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in epidemiology, public health analytics, statistical modeling, SQL, data visualization, and scientific writing.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct epidemiologic and statistical analyses related to substance use, overdose, and public health interventions.
- Evaluate overdose prevention initiatives, including prescribing policies, naloxone distribution, provider education, and related programs.
- Analyze data involving buprenorphine, stimulants, prescription drugs, overdose, and related health outcomes.
- Identify trends, hotspots, risk factors, and patterns through statistical analysis.
- Develop reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analytical products.
- Analyze and integrate information from multiple healthcare and public health datasets.
- Collaborate with epidemiologists, program managers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Apply appropriate study design and epidemiologic methodologies.
- Ensure data quality, security, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support research studies, grant applications, presentations, reports, and other public health initiatives.
- Translate analytical results into evidence-based recommendations and public health actions.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in public health and analytics.
- Strong proficiency with analytical/statistical tools such as R, SAS, Stata, or similar.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Experience working with relational databases.
- Knowledge of epidemiologic methods and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of public health data sources and overdose/substance-use surveillance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex analytical findings to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience linking multiple datasets.
- Experience working with government or state public health data.
- Experience with overdose surveillance or substance-use datasets.
- Experience with PDMP or prescription drug data.
- Experience with mortality/death certificate data or hospital discharge data.
- Experience creating dashboards and data visualizations.
- Experience evaluating public health programs and interventions.
- Strong scientific/report writing experience.
Important Requirements
- Must be a Tennessee resident.
- Must be able to work in the office 1 day per week in Nashville, TN.
- Must be available for the Monday–Friday schedule.
- Strong experience in SQL + R/SAS/Stata is highly preferred.
