Responsibilities

Program Overview
This program is focused on upgrading air traffic control systems at TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) facilities across the country. Due to the scale and ongoing expansion of the effort, there is a high demand for qualified personnel, with multiple current openings and additional staffing needs anticipated.

Position Summary
There are two types of engineers needed, equipment engineers and systems engineers.

The Equipment Engineer supports the program by conducting on-site assessments of air traffic control systems. This role is responsible for inspecting, inventorying, and documenting hardware, software versions, and system interconnections at operational facilities. The focus is on understanding existing equipment, how it is interconnected, and whether it complies with established connection and power standards.

This is distinct from a systems engineer where there is also a need. The Systems Engineer position focuses on equipment installation and configuration.

Note: Resumes for these roles may appear similar; candidates with strong technical fundamentals will be evaluated for best fit.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Engineer Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site inspections of air traffic control systems at TRACON facilities
Inventory and document hardware components, software versions, and system interconnections
Verify compliance with connection and power requirements (e.g., 110-volt grounded circuits)
Catalog equipment configurations, physical layouts, and cabling
Validate connectivity and operational status of existing equipment
Identify discrepancies between installed equipment and documentation
Coordinate findings with systems engineering and integration teams
Support program documentation and reporting requirements

Systems Engineer Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, replacement, and configuration of air traffic control system equipment
Integrate hardware and software components into the operational system architecture
Configure system parameters in accordance with engineering specifications and requirements
Execute system bring-up, checkout, and activation activities
Conduct system integration testing and support site acceptance testing
Troubleshoot system-level issues across hardware, software, and network interfaces
Ensure system implementations meet operational, safety, and performance requirements
Support system cutover activities and transition to operational use
Develop and update system installation, configuration, and test documentation
Coordinate with operations, engineering, and program teams to resolve integration issues

Required Qualifications

Equipment Engineer - Basic Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience working with hardware, cabling, and networking equipment in field environments
Experience inspecting, inventorying, and documenting technical equipment
Ability to verify power, grounding, and physical connectivity requirements
Familiarity with data center-style or operational facility environments
Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation
Willingness and ability to travel to operational sites

Systems Engineer - Basic Qualifications
  • Experience installing, configuring, and integrating technical systems in operational environments
Hands-on experience with hardware and software system configuration
Ability to perform system checkout, troubleshooting, and validation activities
Understanding of system integration concepts, interfaces, and dependencies
Ability to follow and implement engineering specifications and procedures
Willingness and ability to travel to operational sites
