Project Overview
The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is migrating existing Microsoft SQL Server Data Warehouses, Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS), and Analysis Services (SSAS) to AWS Data Marts and Tableau Dashboards.
Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities
The DMV IT Division (MVIT) Data Visualization & Cloud Analytics Engineer will work on the following, but not limited to:
- Organize, configure, and optimize existing Tableau Server installations; assist with permissions, performance, and content governance.
- Design and develop clear, scalable Tableau dashboards and data models per DMV criteria.
- Build AWS-based data marts using S3, Redshift, Glue, and related services.
- Develop ETL and ingestion pipelines using AWS Glue and AWS DMS.
- Migrate and modernize Microsoft SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS solutions into AWS-native architectures per DMV criteria.
- Ensure data quality, security, and documentation across analytics workflows.
- Follow guidelines established by DMV IT Division (MVIT) and support MVIT teams as needed.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality, privacy, and security of all Nevada State data.
The Data Visualization & Cloud Analytics Engineer will work with MVIT teams under the direction of the MVIT Data Engineering & Science Manager and complete the assigned tasks in the scope of work in accordance with the MVIT standards and procedures.
Deliverables
The Data Visualization & Cloud Analytics Engineer must:
- Complete work and project tasks assigned.
- Provide needed documentation for tasks assigned.
- Provide detailed status reports of tasks assigned, and hours spent on each task, including:
- status of the project in terms of the approved project plan and schedule
- document problems that were encountered and proposed/actual resolution
- document issues that need to be addressed
- document accomplishments during the period
- document activities to be accomplished during the next reporting period
- log activity and time using DMV time tracking software (Jira) daily.
Experience and Skills Required
The Data Visualization & Cloud Analytics Engineer must have:
- The capability to perform the functions described in Scope of Work section.
- One of the following:
- a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or any other equivalent degree, along with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience
- a minimum of nine (9) years of relevant professional experience.
- Hands-on Tableau Server administration and dashboard development experience.
- Strong AWS data engineering skills (Glue, Redshift, S3, IAM, Lambda).
- Experience with ETL/ELT design, including AWS Glue and DMS.
- Proficient in SQL and modern data modeling practices.
- Background with SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS, including migration or modernization work.
- Excellent English spoken and written communication skills.
- Excellent collaboration skills and strong commitment to working in a team environment with other contractors/consultants and permanent employees under a complex team structure.
- A proven history in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data marts.
- A proven history in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise level ETL processes and data pipelines in AWS Cloud with ASW Glue and AWS DMS.
