Sr. Bumper Design Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Bumper Design Engineer / Automotive Bumper PIC with 15–20 years of automotive design and development experience, including strong hands-on experience in automotive bumper systems.

The selected candidate will work full-time onsite at an automotive OEM facility in the Raymond/Marysville, Ohio area and serve as the primary technical point of contact for bumper design activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop automotive bumper design concepts based on OEM project direction.
• Perform advanced CAD design and 3D modeling using CATIA V5/V6.
• CATIA V5 will be the primary CAD tool through the Die-Go stage.
• Create layouts, assemblies, and engineering drawings according to OEM standards.
• Perform styling feasibility studies with the LA/Styling Studio.
• Evaluate engineering issues and drive open-item closure.
• Support design evaluations and corrective measures.
• Address Gap & Flushness, IQS, Wiring & Piping, and other OEM evaluation requirements.
• Create supporting engineering documentation.
• Support cost estimation and supplier quotation analysis.
• Work closely with OEM styling, suppliers, manufacturing/factory, and engineering teams.
• Support design-to-cost, manufacturability, quality, and development targets.

PIC / Leadership Responsibilities

• Work 100% onsite at the OEM in Ohio.
• Act as the Person in Charge (PIC) for bumper design activities.
• Serve as the primary communication point between the OEM and LTTS nearshore/offshore PSC teams.
• Coordinate and manage offshore PSC workload and deliverables.
• Ensure engineering deliverables meet OEM schedules, quality requirements, and technical standards.

Required Qualifications

• 15–20 years of automotive design/development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in automotive bumper design and development.
• Advanced proficiency in CATIA V5 and V6.
• Strong experience with:
  • 3D modeling
  • Assembly design
  • Layout creation
  • Engineering drawings
  • Styling feasibility
  • Gap & Flush
  • Manufacturing feasibility
• Experience working directly with automotive OEMs.
• Strong understanding of the OEM product development process and milestones.
• Ability to work effectively with styling teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and OEM engineering.
• Understanding of automotive part/assembly cost drivers and design-to-cost methodologies.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, coordination, and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience

• Front and rear bumper design.
• Bumper A-surface/B-surface development.
• Bumper styling and feasibility.
• Supplier coordination.
• OEM evaluation and issue closure.
• Experience managing onsite/nearshore/offshore engineering teams.
• Experience with automotive plastic components and manufacturing processes.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field preferred.
