Purpose of the Position: 

The Learning Management System (LMS) Senior Manager will be responsible for managing a team tasked with designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining LMS solutions to support key strategic and operational initiatives. This role will collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders and Senior Leadership to provide strategic oversight, implementation and continuous improvement of LMS solutions.. 

What you’ll do: 

1. Manage a Team of LMS Engineers: Manage and mentor a team tasked with designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining LMS solutions to support key strategic and operational initiatives 

2. Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a long-term roadmap for LMS solutions that benefit Students, Faculty and provide insights for other Organizational areas such as Learner Services and Career Services. 

3. Design and Develop LMS Solutions: Create and maintain technical solutions, in conjunction with the LMS Engineers, that utilize cutting-edge LMS design capabilities considering integration with other IT solutions and architectural best practices. 

4. Evaluate Emerging Technologies: Partner with business leaders across the organization to lead proof-of-concepts and prototypes, evaluating their viability and scalability. Work closely with business units to build robust, sustainable systems. 

5. Effective Communication and Support: Provide clear communication to stakeholders. Ensure team provides appropriate support for existing tools (handling issues, questions, and enhancements). Provide metrics on Support issues and resolutions. 

6. Strategic Partnerships and Industry Knowledge: Cultivate strong relationships with business stakeholders and third-party partners. Stay informed about industry trends and technological innovations in education and technology sectors.

Required Skills/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a Technical discipline. 
  • 5 years of experience in systems configuration and systems analysis, education technology (preferably in higher education, and various functional groups such as academics, marketing, advising, finance, etc. 
  • 7 years of experience with LMS.  Brightspace/D2L required
  • Experience with Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) Integrations, web services APIs, MSSQL, and cloud offerings such as Microsoft Azure or AWS. 
  • Skills – sound judgement/decision-making, influencing, organization, adaptability, service orientation, interpersonal skills, and teamwork. 
  • Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English. 
  • Ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive work environment. 
  • Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role. 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Any advanced degree or equivalent work experience and/or strong or advanced proficiency in any of the above required skills. 
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams. 
  • Ability to integrate third-party applications with the LMS via Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standard. 
  • Other skills or abilities – business acumen, cost consciousness, integrity/respect, strategic thinking, follow-through, vision, and complex problem-solving. 

Compliance: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follow all applicable state laws and rules, federal and state compliance requirements and regulations, including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations, and internal policies and procedures. 
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
