Sr. Payroll Tax Specialist on a
12-month contract basis. This is a hybrid position requiring
3 days per week onsite in Charlotte, NC.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll tax professional who thrives on solving complex tax challenges and driving process improvements. You'll play a critical role in ensuring payroll tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions while partnering closely with Accounting, HRIT, and third-party payroll vendors. Contract Duration: 12 Months
Pay Rate: $35.00 - $40.00/hour
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of payroll tax experience required
- Experience supporting multi-state payroll tax operations
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Experience with payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and compliance processes
- Experience researching and resolving payroll tax notices
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to work onsite in Charlotte, NC three days per week
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 5+ years of payroll tax experience preferred
- Hands-on Workday Payroll experience strongly preferred
- Experience collaborating with third-party payroll vendors
- Experience supporting audits and compliance reporting
- Experience driving process improvements and automation initiatives

Daily Responsibilities
- Review and maintain Workday Payroll Tax configurations across legal entities and jurisdictions
- Partner with payroll vendors and internal teams to update and reconcile payroll tax data
- Review, reconcile, and process monthly and quarterly payroll tax filings
- Manage SUI rate updates and jurisdiction registrations/closures
- Research and resolve payroll tax notices and compliance issues
- Prepare audit documentation and respond to audit-related requests
- Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing, including regular and supplemental payrolls
- Identify and implement payroll process improvements and system enhancements
- Conduct audits to ensure payroll data integrity and compliance
- Generate reporting and key metrics to monitor payroll tax compliance
- Collaborate cross-functionally to streamline processes and reduce manual effort
