Job Description

Build Solutions. Enable Teams. Scale Impact.

American Electric Power (AEP) is advancing the next generation of AI, analytics, and GenAI capabilities across the enterprise. We are looking for a mid-level Solution Engineer who thrives at the intersection of technology, collaboration, and enablement, translating ideas into working solutions and helping teams adopt modern platforms and practices. In this hands-on role, you will partner with business stakeholders, data scientists, and product and engineering teams to design and implement scalable AI-driven solutions, shape AEP's internal GenAI and analytics platforms, integrate managed services, and apply practical DevOps and MLOps practices so teams can build, deploy, and operate with confidence.

What You'll Do:

Solution Design & Delivery

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, and engineers to translate requirements into scalable AI/ML models, applications, and data pipelines.
  • Contribute to solutions across Python, .NET, and JavaScript ecosystems, selecting the right tools and patterns for the problem.
  • Develop reference architectures, reusable components, and examples that accelerate delivery across teams.

Platform & Enablement

  • Enable and accelerate analytics, data science, and application teams by designing and evolving internal enterprise GenAI and analytics platforms.
  • Integrate and support managed services used in AI/ML workflows, including analytics platforms, container orchestration, and API management.
  • Act as a technical partner and advisor, helping teams adopt platforms safely, effectively, and consistently.

DevOps, MLOps & Operational Excellence

  • Establish and apply DevOps and MLOps practices that ensure solutions are:
    • Reliable and observable
    • Secure and well-governed
    • Maintainable and scalable over time
  • Leverage tools such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Terraform, MLflow, Helm, and Argo to support CI/CD, infrastructure provisioning, and experiment tracking.
  • Balance rigor with pragmatism by favoring lightweight, repeatable patterns over heavy process.

Collaboration & Continuous Learning

  • Work across multiple initiatives simultaneously, adapting quickly as priorities evolve.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and practices, and help the organization adopt them responsibly.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience building or enabling solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML development workflows, GenAI systems, or data platforms.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps or MLOps concepts (CI/CD, IaC, deployment patterns, model lifecycle management).
  • Exposure to containerized or orchestrated environments (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of security and governance fundamentals (IAM/RBAC, secrets management, compliance considerations).
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on enablement and impact, not just infrastructure.
  • Experience collaborating across teams to design and deliver technical solutions.
  • Comfort working across multiple technologies and domains, with the ability to learn new tools quickly.

What We're Looking For:

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, data science, or a related technical field.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in solution engineering, platform engineering, software development, cloud infrastructure, or MLOps related work. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

What You'll Get:

$87,633.00 - $109,543.00

In addition to a competitive compensation, AEP offers a unique comprehensive benefits package that aims to support and enhance the overall well-being of our employees.
