Job Title: Payment Domain SME
Job Location: Denver, CO
Job Type: Contract
Job Overview:
Pay Range: $77hr - $82hr

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with business and technology stakeholders to understand payment processing and routing requirements.
  • Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) for payment domain solutions across the organization.
  • Design and propose end-to-end payment routing and integration solutions aligned with enterprise standards and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and third-party partners to gather, analyze, and validate requirements.
  • Represent IT in client, vendor, and partner discussions to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • Define detailed requirements and acceptance criteria, including edge cases in payment processing.
  • Recommend payment routing configurations, workflows, and integration strategies.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, solution walkthroughs, and product demonstrations.
  • Support the full lifecycle from pre-sales through implementation and handover to operations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams and implementation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with PCI standards, security policies, and enterprise governance requirements.
  • Identify team skill gaps and drive training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Payment Domain SME in large enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end payment processing workflows including authorization, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, and dispute management.
  • Expertise in payment routing engines, transaction decisioning, and rule-based routing.
  • Hands-on experience with payment methods such as cards, digital wallets, and alternative payment methods.
  • Experience integrating with payment gateways, processors, acquirers, and third-party providers.
  • Strong solution architecture experience designing scalable, secure, and high-availability payment systems.
  • Knowledge of PCI DSS standards and secure payment data handling.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in payment processing.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical solutions into business-focused outcomes.
  • Experience working in high-volume transaction environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership or solution ownership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Telecom or Retail industry clients.
  • Experience working in large, regulated enterprise environments.
  • Experience collaborating with security and compliance teams.
  • Proven ability to mentor and train engineering teams on payment systems and solutions.
