General Summary:

The Software Analytics and Global Automation (SAGA) team is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to design and develop robust backend API services using Java/Spring Boot or .NET framework. This role is focused on deep technical contribution, system design, and end-to-end execution of complex backend features. While the position emphasizes hands-on engineering, it also includes opportunities to provide technical leadership, influence engineering standards, and mentor other team members. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend systems, distributed architectures, data-driven design, and modern cloud-native development.
Key Responsibilities
  • Architect, design, and implement scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Java/Spring Boot or .NET Core.
  • Deliver high-quality features end-to-end, ensuring performance, security, reliability, and maintainability across systems.
  • Contribute to technical architecture decisions, influencing long-term backend strategy and system design.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product, frontend, QA, and DevOps, to define requirements and integrate components.
  • Review code and provide constructive feedback, championing clean architecture, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, leading root-cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions for complex system problems.
  • Stay current with emerging backend technologies, evaluating and recommending tools, frameworks, or patterns that bring measurable value.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
2+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering with a proven track record of building reliable, scalable systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Java or C#, with extensive hands-on experience in modern web stack. Deep knowledge of frameworks such as ASP.NET core or SpringBoot.
  • Strong background in RESTful API development, microservices architecture, and distributed systems design.
  • Deep understanding of core computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and design patterns.
  • Expertise in working with observability platforms such as Grafana / Prometheus or Datadog. Familiarity with observability best-practices.
  • Experience working with AWS cloud, including core services such as EC2, EKS, API Gateway, RDS, S3, SQS, IAM, VPC, and Secrets Manager.
  • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes, as well as Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
  • Strong SQL and NoSQL database expertise, including databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis.
  • Proficiency with modern development tooling, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, build automation frameworks, and observability/monitoring tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, QA, and DevOps teams.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$134,800.00 - $202,200.00

The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
