Amazon Leo is pioneering a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites designed to deliver low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Our mission is ambitious-and we're seeking an exceptional hardware engineer to help build the avionics systems that power Amazon Leo satellites.
As a member of our avionics development team, you will design, verify, and deliver critical hardware components used in space-borne systems. You will combine deep technical expertise, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and a track record of shipping high-quality hardware.
Day in the Life: you will operate in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment to design hardware destined for space. You'll take concepts from early architecture through production, collaborating closely with systems, mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams. You will spend time in the lab bringing up new boards, validating functionality, root-causing issues, and ensuring hardware is robust and launch-ready. You will thrive in an environment where product owners are empowered to solve complex technical challenges quickly and effectively.
Key Job Responsibilities- Design digital and analog circuits in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Architect and design high-speed serial interfaces connected to FPGA and/or SoC technologies. (FPGA experience not required)
- Perform ECAD schematic capture and support PCB layout reviews.
- Lead hardware design reviews, including architecture, schematic, and board layout assessments.
- Develop bring-up and validation test plans; lead qualification and production test activities.
- Drive debug efforts for avionics and power subsystem hardware in the lab.
- Lead requirement derivation and maintain traceability through subsystem development.
- Support subsystem production ramp-up and integration into higher-level satellite systems.
- Serve as a technical leader, promoting hardware best practices across the full product lifecycle.
- Utilize lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and spectrum analyzers for test and debug.
Basic Qualifications- 5+ years of hardware engineering experience.
- 5+ years of experience with ECAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout review.
- 5+ years of experience in board bring-up, validation, and debugging in a lab environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary product development from concept through production.
- Experience managing or coordinating technical hardware development projects.
