hands-on Production Engineer to support daily operations and continuous improvement projects at our chemical manufacturing facility in Pittsburgh, PA. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical or chemical engineering background and experience with the design, installation, and startup of process equipment such as
pumps, heat exchangers, reactor systems, and process piping. This position will work closely with plant operators, maintenance, and management to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance. Key Responsibilities- Lead or assist in the design, installation, and commissioning of new process equipment and system upgrades.
- Evaluate and troubleshoot process, mechanical, or equipment performance issues.
- Develop and implement process improvements to increase safety, reliability, and production efficiency.
- Prepare P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and documentation for new and modified systems.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams during construction and installation projects.
- Support preventive maintenance programs.
- Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, local codes).
- Provide technical support for production and maintenance staff.
- Participate in root cause analyses and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4-7+ years of hands-on experience in a chemical, industrial, or manufacturing environment.
- Practical knowledge of pump sizing and installation, heat transfer equipment, pressure vessels, and reactor systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with piping design, instrumentation, and process controls is preferred.
- Working knowledge of process safety, and mechanical integrity practices is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial environment.
Work Environment- On-site role at a chemical manufacturing plant.
- Requires occasional lifting, climbing, and field work around operating process units.
- Standard business hours with occasional overtime or weekend work during equipment installations or turnarounds.
