Summary

SAP Solution Architect, Materials Management & Sourcing

Location: Oak Brook, IL (Hybrid, 3 days/week onsite) | Full-time

Candidates must have hands-on experience with both SAP Ariba and SAP MM (Materials Management).

Overview

Our client is seeking a SAP Solution Architect, Materials Management & Sourcing to define, govern and evolve its ERP-based procurement and e-Procurement landscape across Source-to-Pay (S2P). The role gives equal weight to ERP purchasing and inventory management (purchasing operations, MRP-driven procurement, invoice verification, master data) and to SAP Ariba as the strategic e-Procurement platform, including its integration with SAP ECC and S/4HANA. This is a hands-on role, not a governance-only architecture position. You will configure Ariba from day one (buying channel enablement, catalog and Guided Buying setup, Ariba-to-ERP integration), and the near-term roadmap includes a significant SAP Ariba modernization. As the primary decision-maker for solution design in this domain, you will set the architectural standards delivery teams work within, partnering with Procurement, Finance and Plant Operations leadership, the PMO, and the automation engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements across purchasing, inventory and e-Procurement into functional and technical designs.
  • Keep ERP MM transactions (requisitions, POs, goods receipts, invoice verification) running without manual intervention.
  • Own the link between strategic sourcing contracts and ERP purchasing master data (info records, outline agreements, source lists).
  • Keep vendor, material and commodity master data synchronized across the ERP and e-Procurement platforms.
  • Support MRP-driven procurement stability and diagnose EDI-related failures at the ERP boundary.
  • Act as Level 3/4 functional escalation for S2P incidents, including root-cause analysis on stuck transactions and interface failures.
  • Identify automation opportunities and write the requirements, partnering with the automation engineering team on technical delivery.
  • Own end-to-end solution design for S2P transformation work, and lead design and quality reviews.
  • Assess urgency, impact and risk for change requests, and follow the Change Advisory Board (CAB) process.
  • Set architectural standards and integration patterns for the S2P domain.
  • Mentor functional analysts in ERP configuration, integration design and procurement processes.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in SAP procurement / Source-to-Pay solution design and delivery.
  • Hands-on experience with both SAP Ariba and SAP MM (Materials Management).
  • Hands-on Ariba configuration: buying channels, catalogs, Guided Buying, and Ariba-to-ERP integration with SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing operations, MRP-driven procurement, invoice verification, and purchasing master data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with other SAP modules that integrate with MM.
  • Strong communication skills with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with EDI troubleshooting and Level 3/4 production support.
