Lead BAS / DDC Field Technician - Traveling
Compensation: $45-$55/hour, depending on experience
Travel: Full-time / nationwide
Travel Support: Company-paid lodging, per diem, transportation, flights or mileage, and other standard project-related travel expenses
Data center / mission-critical controls experience is required.

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Lead BAS / DDC Field Technician to support large-scale, mission-critical data center projects across the U.S. This is a hands-on field leadership position for someone who can take ownership of BAS/DDC systems through startup, troubleshooting, commissioning, and final turnover while providing technical direction to other field technicians.

This is a full-time traveling position with a structured rotation designed to provide consistent time at home. Technicians typically spend approximately two weeks onsite followed by an extended weekend home, depending on project needs.

What You'll Do
  • Lead onsite BAS/DDC field activities for large-scale data center projects.
  • Provide technical direction and day-to-day support to controls technicians in the field.
  • Oversee system startup, point-to-point checkout, commissioning, functional testing, troubleshooting, and turnover readiness.
  • Review controls drawings, sequences of operation, point lists, network architecture, equipment submittals, and field conditions.
  • Troubleshoot complex controls issues involving programming, electrical systems, communications, networks, sequences, and system integration.
  • Verify panel wiring, device installation, calibration, valve operation, PID loops, graphics, alarms, and system performance.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, commissioning teams, TAB contractors, IT teams, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Track field issues through resolution, retesting, and closeout while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Maintain redlines, QA/QC records, commissioning documentation, MOPs, and turnover packages.
  • Support site planning, scheduling, safety, quality control, and technician development.

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of hands-on BAS/DDC controls experience, ideally including field leadership responsibilities.
  • Previous data center or mission-critical BAS experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central plants, sequences of operation, commissioning, TAB, and controls integration.
  • Experience with major BAS/DDC platforms such as Niagara, Delta Controls, Distech, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, or comparable systems.
  • Strong understanding of BACnet, Modbus, IP-based controls networks, gateways, and system integration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot controls hardware, software, programming, networking, electrical, and sequence-related issues independently.
  • Experience reading controls drawings, electrical schematics, specifications, submittals, and construction documents.
  • Previous experience leading technicians and coordinating with multiple trades on active construction sites.
  • Ability and willingness to travel full-time on a rotating project schedule.

Travel & Field Environment

This role is designed for someone who enjoys project-based travel and working on complex, high-profile data center environments. The typical rotation is approximately two weeks onsite followed by an extended weekend at home, allowing for predictable breaks between project assignments.

While traveling, lodging, per diem, transportation, and other standard travel expenses are covered by the company.

The position requires regular work in active construction environments, including standing and walking for extended periods, climbing ladders or stairs, working from lifts, using hand and power tools, wearing required PPE, and lifting or maneuvering materials up to approximately 50 pounds.
