COBOL Mainframe Programmer / Developer

This is an excellent opportunity for professionals with strong COBOL, DB2, and mainframe development experience who enjoy solving complex problems in enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

Translate analysis, design documents, and specifications into structured COBOL programs

Maintain and enhance custom software including user screens, batch processing, reports, queries, and menus

Review existing code, data, and business processes to support application functionality

Perform testing, debugging, and validation of program changes

Identify and correct data errors and generate data analysis/summary reports

Assist in modernization initiatives, including migration from COBOL applications to web-based systems

Prepare technical and user documentation to support development and deployment processes

Improve application efficiency by optimizing program performance and reducing processing time

Provide production support and troubleshooting for existing systems

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of COBOL development experience on mainframe systems

Strong experience with COBOL, DB2, CICS, and JCL

Experience with Control-M job scheduling

Solid understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

Strong debugging, testing, and troubleshooting skills

Experience preparing technical and user documentation

Ability to follow enterprise code management and deployment processes

Excellent analytical and communication skills

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience with Java and open systems development

Knowledge of AWS cloud platforms

Experience with PostgreSQL databases

Familiarity with Kofax tools

Experience supporting legacy modernization initiatives
