Milwaukee WI (5 Days Onsite)
The Engineer IV is responsible providing expertise regarding new product development as well as continuous improvement of legacy systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include medium-voltage power circuit design, electrical system studies (short-circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination), component selection and sizing, and codes and standards compliance. Additionally, candidates will facilitate product development through design, validation, and release while serving as a technical leader and mentor to the broader engineering team.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 7+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical Expertise
- Proven expertise in electrical design for power generation, power conversion, or power distribution equipment (generators, inverters, transfer switches, switchgear, paralleling equipment).
- Demonstrated expertise in medium-voltage power applications, particularly mission-critical power solutions, including design of MV switchgear, paralleling equipment, transformers, or power conversion systems.
- Working knowledge of MV-specific standards and testing (IEEE, IEC, ANSI, insulation coordination practices; dielectric/hipot and partial discharge testing).
- Expertise in power circuit design including component selection and sizing (transformers, breakers, contactors, busbar, cabling), thermal management, and grounding/bonding strategies.
- Working knowledge of power electronics topologies and their electrical integration requirements (rectifiers, inverters, DC/DC converters).
- Experience with EMC/EMI design, mitigation, and compliance testing.
- Experience developing and executing test and validation plans using multiple methods (bench-level component and system testing, dielectric/hipot testing, environmental testing, fault injection, etc.).
- Proficiency with electrical CAD and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent).
- Experience with machine design and new product development from concept through production.
Professional Skills
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems and apply engineering judgment to improve products, services, and processes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects of increasing complexity with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate technical information for any audience — from engineers to executives.
- Active participation in technical communities, industry standards bodies (IEEE, NEC/NFPA, UL), or regulatory working groups.
- Proficiency with standard business software (MS Office suite) and ERP systems (SAP or equivalent).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, validation, and market launch of new power generation and power conversion products, owning technical decisions from concept through production release.
- Define precise electrical functional requirements; architect and design power circuits, electrical distribution, and protection schemes; integrate complex components and subsystems into final designs; evaluate
- overall design effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
- Design medium-voltage (1 kV–38 kV) power equipment and distribution architectures, including insulation coordination, BIL selection, creepage and clearance analysis, busbar and cable system design, and transformer and switchgear integration.
- Perform and review electrical system calculations including load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, and insulation coordination studies.
- Design, develop, execute, and evaluate fitness-for-use testing, product specifications, and process validation plans for complex electrical products and components; create and review material part specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (UL, IEC, NEC, IEEE, CSA) and support agency certification activities.
- Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize complex electrical designs for manufacturability.
- Drive product development plans to meet schedule, product cost, and design input commitments.
- Serve as a technical leader and mentor, developing the capabilities of less experienced engineers and raising the engineering standard across the team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE:
- Works independently, with occasional guidance on challenging technical issues;
- Requires in-depth knowledge and/or breadth of expertise;
- Uses best practices and knowledge of internal and external business issues to improve products or services;
- Beginning to recommend solutions and best practices;
- Strong conceptualization, visualization, and creativity;
- Strong time management, prioritization, and analytical problem solving;
- Solves complex problems;
- Takes a new perspective using existing solutions;
- Strong decision-making skills;
- Represents the level at which career may stabilize for many years or even until retirement;
- Progression to this level is typically restricted on the basis of business requirement;
- May lead small cross-functional project teams;
- Ensures success cross-functionally;
- Actively coaches colleagues with less experience;
- Offer recommendations and implement solutions;
- Take ownership of designs;
- Participates in standards and procedure development;
- Leading efforts to improve the financial impact of engineering activities on the businesses and thorough understanding of how other functions impact the business;
Thanks and regards
