Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA | Full-Time

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is seeking a Data & Business Intelligence Analyst who is passionate about using data to strengthen programs, improve operations, and expand our impact across the communities we serve.

As one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the Tampa Bay region, the YMCA serves more than 160,000 individuals annually through youth development programs, health and wellness initiatives, aquatics and sports programming, childcare and camps, and community outreach efforts. This role plays a key part in ensuring that our leaders have the insights they need to make informed decisions that help families thrive, expand access to programs, and advance the Y's mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Working closely with leaders across the association, the Data & Business Intelligence Analyst will transform organizational data into meaningful insights by building Power BI dashboards, analyzing performance trends, and helping guide data-informed strategies that strengthen the YMCA's ability to serve the Tampa Bay community.

Key Responsibilities

Develop Power BI dashboards and reports that provide clear visibility into program participation, membership trends, and operational performance
Query and structure data using SQL to support reporting and analytical initiatives
Track key performance indicators across membership, youth programs, wellness initiatives, and operational functions
Combine data from multiple systems into usable datasets that support strategic planning and organizational decision-making
Identify trends, opportunities, and potential challenges through data analysis to help guide leadership decisions
Support leadership teams with insights that help expand program access, improve member experience, and increase community impact

Qualifications

3-5 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field
Strong SQL and Power BI skills
Experience translating complex data into clear insights for non-technical audiences
Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Passion for supporting mission-driven work through data and analytics

Under the direction of the CIO, the Data & Systems Manager leads the organization's data and business intelligence efforts, turning program, membership, and operational data into actionable insights that drive decision-making and community impact. This role designs and maintains relational data structures, builds and governs Power BI dashboards and reports, and partners closely with executives and program leaders to define and track key performance indicators. The position also serves as a product owner for core association applications, ensuring systems are configured, integrated, and adopted in ways that maximize value and support data-driven decisions.

The ideal candidate has a passion for data, enjoys solving complex analytical problems with SQL and modern BI tools, and is eager to help the YMCA mature its data culture through self-service analytics, training, and continuous improvement. This role offers broad visibility across the association, regular interaction with senior leadership, and opportunities for professional growth in analytics, data strategy, and nonprofit impact measurement.

Success in the role will require strong data skills, relationship building skills, proactivity and follow-through. Success also requires a customer service mindset with internal staff team being the customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data, reporting, and analytics
  • Design, maintain, and query relational databases using SQL to support reporting and analysis needs across the association.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve Power BI dashboards and scheduled reports for executives and program leaders, focusing on usability and performance.
  • Provide stakeholders with data on KPIs that measure program performance, membership, fundraising, and operational efficiency.
  • Combine data from multiple sources (core systems, spreadsheets, exports) into clean, well-structured datasets for repeatable reporting.
  • Perform recurring and ad-hoc analysis to identify trends, issues, and opportunities, and communicate findings in clear, business-friendly language.
  • Help maintain data quality and governance by documenting data definitions, performing basic data validation, and flagging issues to IT for remediation.

Systems, integrations, and data flows
  • Serve as the point of contact for data from key YMCA systems, understanding how it is captured and how it flows into reports and dashboards.
  • Partner with IT and vendors to support integrations and data feeds between systems, including SSO or ETL tasks that improve data availability for reporting.
  • Participate in QA testing for system changes and new implementations to ensure that reporting and dashboards remain accurate.

Enablement, training, and collaboration
  • Meet with departments across the organization to understand their data and reporting needs, translate them into technical requirements, and propose solutions.
  • Provide periodic training and create simple documentation to help staff use key reports, dashboards, and basic system functions.
  • Act as a partner and advisor to program directors, suggesting ways to better use data to monitor performance and support decision-making.

Delivery and professional growth
  • Manage a small portfolio of reporting and system-related tasks, set realistic timelines, and follow through on commitments.?
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing reports, automate manual processes, and enhance the organization's use of Power BI and SQL over time.
  • Make suggestions on how to use modern methods to improve our processes (using AI for example)
  • Stay current on best practices in data analysis, Power BI, and nonprofit data usage, and bring forward ideas that can increase the impact of the YMCA's data work.

Team Leadership
  • Indirect supervision of 1 staff
  • Responsible for building and developing systems, reducing dependency on vendors.
  • Ensure teams are executing on Association initiatives.
  • Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and events as required.

Safety and Risk Management
  • Adhere to all Federal, State, and local safety regulations, as well as all YMCA policies and procedures related to the safety, health, and welfare of members, participants, guests, and staff
  • Ensure that all Tampa YMCA standards, leading practices, and policies are implemented and consistently followed, including those related to emergency procedures, child abuse prevention, and appropriate supervision.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising participants and boundaries with participants when applicable.
  • Ensure implementation of and follows all training requirements including risk management and child abuse prevention training in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment at all times, including performing daily safety checks of program areas, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain proper records, including certifications, meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain an emphasis on safety in all areas of responsibility as they relate to members and staff.
  • Adhere to risk management training requirements including child abuse prevention.
  • Front desk personnel-ensure member or association guest are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and respectful environment for members, guests, and staff.
  • Promptly report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior, as well as policy violations, following established association procedures.

Requirements

Education/ Experience Required
  • Associate's degree in information systems, data analytics, computer science, business, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a data analyst, business intelligence analyst, or similar role with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong proficiency with SQL for querying and transforming data (e.g., MS SQL, MySQL, or similar).
  • Practical experience designing and maintaining SQL views, procedures, and relational data models to support reporting and analytics needs.
  • 2+ years of experience building and maintaining interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI (or a comparable BI tool), including use of DAX and Power Query.
  • At least 1 year of experience using Power Automate or similar automation tool.
  • Experience working as a business analyst, systems analyst such as a CRM or ERP, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business questions into data requirements, and to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders in clear, accessible language.
  • Familiarity with data quality, basic data governance concepts, and best practices for documentation and reproducible reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships across departments and provide training or support to end users with varying levels of technical comfort.
  • Ability to translate data points into meaningful information

Certifications/Trainings Required:
  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.
