ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL)

Summary

You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL) in the Fleet Technical Support Division (Code 210) of the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF).

Help

• You will provide technical assistance on urgent mission-degrading CASREPs or similar problems affecting major systems.
• You will participate as a team leader for assigned systems in pier-side functional checkout, grooming, adjustment and repair of shipboard systems under the leadership of a senior technician or engineer.
• You will provide technical assistance on assigned systems problems beyond the capability of forces afloat, IMA's or repair activities to diagnose and correct.
• You will represent the Naval Sea Systems Command in the inspection and functional checkout/demonstration of major systems on new construction ships or major conversions, trials, or Material Inspections (MIs) for in-service vessels.
• You will perform functional checkout, grooming, adjustment and test of new or modernized shipboard systems in an operational evaluation or CSSQT environment.
• You will provide authoritative technical/engineering guidance to other Naval organizations in resolution of repair/overhaul or test/grooming problems
  
  beyond their level of in-house engineering expertise.
• You will perform special engineering analyses and studies in support of SYSCOM or ISEA for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance procedures, material, etc.
• You will participate in data collection and integral data analysis efforts under the direction of senior in-house, ISEA or SYSCOM engineers for the purpose of evaluating performance characteristics, assessing improvements, recording trends, etc.

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position requires considerable walking, climbing and crawling in and around the systems/equipment with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem.
• Standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits.
• The position has been identified as one in which shift hours may be changed without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks.

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing electrical engineering technical expertise in assessment, problem identification and/or resolution of ship's electrical power generation or distribution systems or subsystems.

FOR THE GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing electrical engineering technical support services in developing test plans, repair plans, problem identification and/or resolution of ship's electrical power generation or distribution systems or subsystems.
