Duration: 12+ Months Contract
*Preferred candidates from South Carolina & North Carolina
Position is Hybrid, however remote capability is very limited and the candidate should expect to be onsite five days a week. Remote days are based off of project needs and discretion.
Job Summary: SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:
Company supports in the neighborhood of 300+ SQL Server databases and is in the process of migrating those databases from SQL Server 2019 to SQL Server 2022. In addition, company is implementing high availability solutions on a number of the systems supported by these databases and increasing its use of Reporting Services and Analysis Services implemented in various support systems such as SharePoint, MS System Center, Team Foundation Server, and others. Company is also facing increasing security concerns around these assets.
This position will supplement the current SQL DBA team with production support activities such as OS updates, security updates, etc., and will require work beyond normal business hours. This role will also support the Oracle DBA team as needed, create reports in SSRS and Power BI, and utilize Erwin in managing logical and physical data models, data dictionaries, and model documentation.
This is expected to be a long-term, ongoing assignment. On-site presence is required; therefore, regional candidates (SC, GA, NC) will be given preferred priority.
The candidate will be working in a team environment consisting of six database engineers and administrators and will work directly with application architects, developers, business analysts, and the server support team. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
DAILY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: SQL Server
- Set up and maintain data replication and mirroring
- Configure maintenance automation
- Perform backup and recovery
- Troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues, including after-hours and weekends
- Monitor SQL Server environments
- Install and configure new SQL Servers
- Develop and support data warehouses and cubes through SQL Server Analysis Services
- Migrate SQL Server databases to SQL Server 2022
- Develop reports using SSRS
- Support SSIS packages
- Develop database design, development, and management standards
- Consult with developers regarding database design
- Implement and support third-party databases for vendor-supplied applications
Oracle 19 (Familiarity Desired)
- Analyze, develop, and support stored procedures and SQL
Business Intelligence
- Design, develop, and manage dashboards and reports through a BI solution
Data Modeling (As Assigned)
- Design, develop, and maintain logical and physical data models using Erwin Data Modeler
- Ensure database designs support scalability, integrity, and performance requirements
- Collaborate with data architects, developers, and business analysts to translate business requirements into data models
- Perform modeling activities in Oracle databases and as needed, in MS SQL databases
Required Skills (Ranked in Order of Importance)
- 5+ years of experience with SQL Server 2019 and 2022
- 5+ years of experience with SQL Server Reporting Services
- 5+ years of experience with SQL Server Analysis Services
- 5+ years of experience with SQL Reports Designer
- 5+ years of experience with BI tools and design
- 5+ years of experience as an SQL Database Administrator
- 2+ years of experience working with State Government agencies
Preferred Skills (Ranked in Order of Importance)
- Data Domain Boost (DD Boost) to support backup and restore operations for SQL Servers
- Experience with Oracle 19 database operations
- Experience with Oracle Grid Control
- Experience with ERwin Data Modeler
Required Education
BA in Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related field.
