Job Details

We are looking for an Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial ammonia (R-717) and CO (R-744) refrigeration systems. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded industrial mechanic with deep hands-on experience with screw compressors and a strong commitment to safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on industrial ammonia and CO refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, vessels, pumps, valves, and controls.
  • Service, overhaul, align, and troubleshoot rotary screw compressors, including mechanical seals, bearings, rotors, slide valves, and oil systems.
  • Diagnose system performance issues and make adjustments to optimize efficiency, capacity, and energy use.
  • Safely perform pump-downs, oil draining, refrigerant charging, leak detection, and equipment isolation following lockout/tagout and line-break procedures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and system documentation in support of PSM and RMP compliance programs.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Management of Change (MOC), Mechanical Integrity Inspections, and emergency response activities as required.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
  • Work with PLC/microprocessor-based compressor control panels to monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust operating parameters.
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
  • Mentor and support less experienced technicians and operators.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as an industrial mechanic or industrial refrigeration technician in industrial refrigeration environments.
  • Proven experience with ammonia (R-717) refrigeration systems.
  • Experience with CO (R-744) refrigeration systems (transcritical, subcritical, or cascade).
  • Strong hands-on experience with rotary screw compressor maintenance, rebuilds, and troubleshooting.
  • Ammonia Refrigeration I & II training and/or RETA certification (CARO or CIRO).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA RMP, and IIAR standards.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to use precision measuring tools, alignment equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Ability to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and in cold or hot environments while wearing required PPE, including respirators.
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Mycom, GEA (Grasso), and/or Bitzer compressors.
  • Familiarity with other major equipment manufacturers (GEA, Tempest, Evapco, BAC).
  • Experience with refrigeration control systems (GEA, Mycom, Tempest).
  • EPA 608 Universal certification.
  • Industrial electrical troubleshooting experience (motors, VFDs, starters).
  • Experience in cold storage, or other industrial facilities.
