Responsibilities

Now Hiring for an Engineering Manager at our Murrysville, PA manufacturing Plant. In this role, as an Engineering Manager you will:

  • Lead Murrysville industrial engineering and mechanical engineering teams, maintaining the right mix of skills, staff size, and individual development activities to achieve organizational objectives; collaboratively set objectives for staff members, monitor progress, and provide coaching and support to achieve desired results; develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the Murrysville plant.
  • Actively advocate safety in all aspects of Murrysville plant operations, adhering to company and site-specific safety policies, practices, and programs, including the OSHA VPP program; lead ongoing efforts to improve workplace ergonomics.
  • Develop and articulate continuous improvement vision, through a value stream perspective. Champion the timely and appropriate use of the MSA Operating System tools and behaviors, such as Kaizen, 6S Workplace Organization, SMED, Continuous Flow, Kanban, Problem Solving, Standard Work, Visual Controls, KPI Metrics and Action Trackers.
  • Lead initiatives to introduce new products into continuous serial mixed-model production, working collaboratively with product engineering to launch products on schedule at cost target.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of long-term manufacturing strategies at the Murrysville plant, including efficient use of space; owning the overall square footage and site layout.
  • Lead the development and implementation of Murrysville's 5-year capital plan.
  • Plan and manage engineering budget and Plant conversion cost reduction plan to achieve annual goals.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of task times, work instructions, routings, and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Coordinate activities to review production order closeout variances, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide project management support for facilities efforts, as needed to support the 5-year capital plan.
  • Plan and manage environmental activities for the Murrysville site, ensuring regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, coach and motivate people; and to promote teamwork, individual accountability, and to influence attitudes and behaviors at all levels of the organization, including stakeholders and parties, internal and external, to the Murrysville site.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to lead a diverse workforce and provide the motivation and sense of urgency to achieve increasing levels of performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks, solve technical problem along with proven project management skills.
  • Proven ability to act independently, to take personal initiative, and to follow initiatives through to completion.
  • Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions and drive change.
  • Proven ability to project a positive, professional image and promote positive relations.
  • Excellent decision-making skills including the ability to identify project obstacles creatively develop alternative solutions. Make recommendations on course of action for approval and follow through on course of action.
  • Up to 10% domestic travel.

Education and experience required:
  • B.S. in an engineering discipline, preferably from an ABET accredited program.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, including continuous improvement.
    • M.S. degree may be substituted from up to 2 years of relevant experience.

Education and experience preferred:
  • M.S. in Industrial Engineering or MBA.
