Title: Mechanical Assembly Technician I
Duration : 6-12 months+
Location: San Jose, CA Onsite
Scope of Work:
The client is seeking a Mechanical Assembly Technician I to support the assembly, inspection, testing, and shipment of high-performance thermal management systems and heat exchangers used in defense, commercial energy, and power generation applications.
This position will work onsite in a low-volume, high-quality manufacturing environment, supporting the production of complex mechanical assemblies built to strict ISO 9001 quality standards. Working under the direction of the Lead Mechanical Assembler, the successful candidate will perform mechanical assembly, dimensional inspection, product validation, documentation, packaging, and shipping while ensuring compliance with customer specifications and internal quality procedures.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with large mechanical components in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. Experience in defense, aerospace, military, or other precision manufacturing industries is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate is an early-career mechanical technician who enjoys hands-on assembly work and takes pride in producing high-quality products. They possess strong mechanical aptitude, work well in structured manufacturing environments, and understand the importance of following detailed procedures and maintaining rigorous quality standards. Individuals with backgrounds in aerospace, defense, military maintenance, industrial manufacturing, or precision mechanical assembly will transition particularly well into this role. Precision manufacturing, aerospace, defense, military maintenance, industrial equipment assembly, automotive manufacturing, or related mechanical production environments backgrounds are all in play for an early-stage technician.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical assembly of precision thermal management products following manufacturing drawings, work instructions, and quality procedures.
- Inspect incoming components for visual and dimensional compliance prior to assembly.
- Utilize standard mechanical hand tools to complete assembly operations.
- Perform in-process and final product inspections using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, thread gauges, radius gauges, countersink gauges, scales, and related inspection tools.
- Conduct product validation activities, including pressure testing and other required quality checks.
- Complete production documentation, inspection records, and customer-required reporting.
- Package completed products for shipment in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Identify and report quality, safety, or production issues to manufacturing leadership.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while supporting a collaborative production team.
- Participate in additional cross-training opportunities, including Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection and forklift operation as needed.
Necessary Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of experience in an ISO 9001, AS9100, manufacturing, maintenance, inspection, or comparable military environment.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation.
- Experience using mechanical hand tools and precision inspection equipment.
- Familiarity with quality inspection techniques and production documentation.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday.
- Frequently squat, kneel, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift components weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Comfortable working with large or awkward mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to safely use ladders and elevated work platforms when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting defense, aerospace, military, automotive, marine, or industrial manufacturing programs.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
- Experience performing mechanical assembly in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to pressure testing, quality validation, or inspection processes.
- Experience working with large fabricated or machined mechanical components.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Exposure to Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection equipment is a plus.
