The Defense Health Operation of Leidos Health & Civil Sector is currently looking for a Mathematical and Fleet Liaison Engineer to support our operations at the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory (NSMRL) in Groton, CT. NSMRL conducts research and investigates the effects of medical, psychological, and performance issues associated with the health and performance of naval personnel in operational and non-operational settings.

The Mathematical and Fleet Liaison Engineer will be responsible for supporting the principal scientist(s) in the Warfighter Health & Protection Department in the areas of design, development, testing, and evaluation of procedures, guidance, equipment, and systems to enhance human performance in submarine environments.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide services in support of the design, development, test, and evaluation of procedures, guidance, equipment, and systems to enhance human performance in submarine environments.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams conducting test and evaluation, developing, and evaluating procedures for submarine escape and rescue, extending survival on a disabled submarine, submarine medicine and researching thermal protection and regulation in cold and warm water.
  • Provide aid with heat/humidity nomograms and formulae and modeling techniques that will provide guidance on when conditions mandate heat mitigation and initiation of escape.
  • Participate with evaluating and consultation on research proposals and review protocols and manuscripts for publication.
  • Participate with briefings to sponsors, customers, and professionals as required.
  • Participate in analysis/preparation of research projects requiring submarine expertise, as required.
  • Interact with outside customers and researchers.
  • Be responsible for supporting subcontracted projects through execution.
  • Conduct literature searches on identified topics relevant to current laboratory practices/protocols.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a field closely related to Naval Architecture, Engineering, or Math.
  • Minimum of eight years of relevant experience.
  • Significant experience in engineering, modeling, and operational knowledge of submarines and other enclosed spaces, disabled submarine scenarios and submarine escape and rescue.
  • Operational experience at the technical and leadership levels in engineering and/or submarine communities.
  • The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.
  • Due to Federal contract requirements, ship is required.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to interact and effectively communicate both written and orally with a wide variety of people.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI/PII compliance, etc. is highly desired.
  • Computer literacy, Microsoft Office proficiency and working knowledge of statistical software are preferred.
  • Skills should include a foundational and theoretical understanding of general scientific principles.
  • Experience in human subject research setting and experience in the US federal government system is highly desired.

Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
