Summary


Position Summary:

The School Psychologist supports the academic, behavioral, emotional, and social success of students by providing comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, consultation, intervention planning, and crisis support. Working collaboratively with administrators, teachers, counselors, parents, and multidisciplinary teams, this role helps identify student needs, determine eligibility for special education services, and develop evidence-based recommendations that promote student achievement.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for students referred through Student Support Teams (SST) and Special Education.
  • Select, administer, score, and interpret appropriate, nondiscriminatory psychological assessments.
  • Analyze assessment results and provide instructional and behavioral recommendations.
  • Participate as an active member of Student Support Teams to assist with intervention planning for general education students.
  • Participate in eligibility and reevaluation meetings to support decisions regarding special education services.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, and other professionals to develop effective intervention strategies.
  • Provide consultation regarding student learning, behavior, and social emotional needs.
  • Assist school personnel during crisis situations and provide support for students as appropriate.
  • Plan and deliver professional development and in service training for faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Prepare comprehensive psychological evaluation reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Support departmental initiatives and contribute to continuous process improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure and Certification

  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia certificate in School Psychology.
  • National Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) certification preferred.

Education

  • Completion of a state approved certification preparation program in School Psychology at the specialist degree level or higher.

OR

  • Masters degree plus 60 graduate semester hours or 90 quarter hours of School Psychology coursework from a National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) approved program.

Experience

  • Successful completion of a supervised public school internship following completion of the required degree.
  • Previous experience as a School Psychologist preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of psychoeducational assessment practices and evaluation methods.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, child development, behavior management, and special education laws and regulations.
  • Ability to consult effectively with administrators, teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and student support strategies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships.
