Job Title: Kong API Developer

Location: Fort Mill, SC (Onsite)

Duration: Long Term Contract

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Kong Developer to design, implement, and manage APIs using Kong API Gateway. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with API management, microservices architecture, and securing, monitoring, and scaling APIs in cloud or hybrid environments.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy APIs using Kong API Gateway
Configure and manage Kong plugins (authentication, rate limiting, logging, transformations, etc.)
Implement API security using OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, mTLS
Manage Kong in DB-less and DB-backed modes
Integrate Kong with microservices and backend systems
Deploy and manage Kong on Kubernetes, Docker, or cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform)
Set up monitoring and logging using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK
Perform API lifecycle management, versioning, and documentation
Troubleshoot production issues and optimize API performance
Collaborate with DevOps, backend, and frontend teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong experience with Kong API Gateway (OSS or Enterprise)
Good understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
Knowledge of API security standards (OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect)
Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
Experience with NGINX concepts
Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Node.js, Python, or Go)
Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills

Experience Level

3 8+ years in API development / API gateway implementation
2+ years hands-on with Kong API Gateway
