Job Type: Long Term Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Engineer Level 4 Lead to manage substation projects from early-stage development through construction and commissioning. This role requires strong expertise in substation engineering, interconnection processes, and coordination with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery in compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead substation projects from conceptual design through execution and commissioning
  • Collaborate with Early-Stage Project Managers to define engineering scope and requirements
  • Provide technical oversight and due diligence for Engineers of Record (EOR)
  • Ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and other applicable standards and codes
  • Develop scope of work, evaluate bids, and onboard engineering consultants via Integrated Supply Chain (ISC)
  • Coordinate site development activities including permitting, engineering updates, and design inputs
  • Source and manage geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services
  • Support cost estimation teams with scope assumptions and technical inputs
  • Represent project interests in stakeholder meetings, including progress updates, risk mitigation, and reporting
  • Review and support interconnection documentation (system impact studies, facility studies, harmonic/reactive studies)
  • Coordinate with Transmission Owners/Operators and ISOs to ensure compliance and timely delivery
  • Manage procurement of long-lead materials to avoid delays and cost overruns
  • Support engineering services procurement and SOW creation
  • Assist estimating team with template improvements and project feedback
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines to define priorities, work plans, and responsibilities
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively
  • Support commissioning activities and corporate objectives
  • Assist Legal teams with regulatory filings, hearings, and documentation
  • Collaborate with OEMs to optimize and integrate component designs

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in substation engineering / power systems / transmission projects
  • Strong knowledge of substation design, construction, and commissioning
  • Experience working with interconnection processes and transmission systems
  • Deep understanding of IEEE, NESC, ASCE standards and industry codes
  • Proven experience managing engineering consultants and EORs
  • Strong background in project lifecycle management (concept to commissioning)
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and leadership skills
  • Experience with cost estimation, procurement, and vendor management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with ISO/RTO environments (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, CAISO, MISO)
  • Familiarity with renewable energy integration projects
  • Experience supporting regulatory and compliance activities
  • Strong collaboration experience with OEMs and cross-functional teams
