Senior Director, Oncology Data & AI Systems to join our Data Science and Digital Health team (DSDH). The Senior Director will accelerate Oncology R&D by advancing the utility of data through AI. This position will be located at one of our offices in either Spring House PA (preferred), Cambridge MA, or San Diego CA (La Jolla area). Consideration may be given for our Titusville and Raritan, NJ locations.
We are seeking a strategic and technical leader to Deliver data products and associated Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications that are aimed at accelerating the Oncology R&D Pipeline. This role reports through the Research & Development Data Science & Digital Health (DSDH), directly to Vice President, Oncology DSDH. The Senior Director will be tasked with leading a team to accelerate and scale the development of foundational enterprise data products, and deployment of a diverse set of scaled AI models and solutions for scientific discovery for the entire Oncology therapy area. This role ensures that high-value internal and external Oncology data assets-including preclinical, translational, clinical, competitive intelligence, and real-world data (RWD/RWE)-are standardized, productized, and integrated into Janssen's enterprise R&D data ecosystem.
The position encompasses a horizontal engagement with Oncology as well as teams in R&D Data Science. The successful candidate will be positioned as a senior technical leader in expanding an Oncology-focused data foundation as well as the technical delivery of associated AI-based tools. This leader will also interact with a wide range of technical partners within R&D as well as senior level stakeholders throughout the company. Also, this person will ensure that Oncology data products and AI solutions will fill business requirements, will be semantically consistent, and interoperable, enabling faster discovery, stronger evidence generation, resulting in better access and use.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team to develop technical requirements for Oncology-facing data products that enable AI applications. Attract, upskill and retain top talents in the field, manage a technical team, and collaborate with key stakeholders in R&D, DSDH, and JJT.
- Define and maintain a roadmap for Oncology data products, spanning discovery, translational research, clinical development, and real-world evidence.
- Partner with Knowledge Management, Data Platforms & Governance, and Master Data Management teams to ensure Oncology data products integrate seamlessly into enterprise ontologies, knowledge graphs, and catalogs.
- In close partnership & lead a team that works with key business partners, externally source, engineer, develop and deploy impactful and scalable AI solutions for Oncology
- Contribute to the development and governance of an Oncology Ontology to enable semantic consistency across discovery, clinical, regulatory, and real-world data.
- Establish and work with governance models, agile delivery processes, and value-tracking metrics for Oncology data products and AI tools.
- Champion data literacy and adoption within the Oncology TA.
Key Qualifications- Advanced degree (PhD) in disciplines such as Computer Science, AI/ML, Engineering, Biomedical engineering, Applied Mathematics or similar.
- Minimum of 10 years of post-academic, industry, or equivalent, experience.
- Experience with diverse, high dimensional data sets, such as multi-modal Oncology data, including omics, imaging, translational, clinical trial, and RWE data
- Extensive experience in creating scalable and impactful data-driven solutions, including managing their full life cycle (design, development, testing, deployment, operations & maintenance, etc.).
- Strong experience in people leadership, and ability to work in a matrixed organization
- Deep knowledge of data products, database design, data transformation/mapping
- Excellent communication skills and strategic thinking capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in the Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical or Medical Tech sector.
- Experience with Oncology Ontology enterprise metadata standards and external frameworks (e.g. CDISC, GA4GH, FHIR, NCI Thesaurus)
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive adoption of new data capabilities across a complex organization.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $196,000 to $342,700. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
