Job DetailsThis hands-on engineering position will design instrumentation, electrical controls, and automation systems for complex process-equipment packages. The engineer will support projects from the proposal and design stages through manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, startup, and commissioning.
What You'll Do
- Review customer specifications, RFQs, and tenders to define instrumentation and control-system requirements.
- Establish control-system architecture and select PLCs, instrumentation, control hardware, and related components.
- Develop P&IDs, control schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, cable schedules, and 2D/3D AutoCAD general-arrangement drawings.
- Program and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems, HMIs, sequence logic, and PID control loops.
- Prepare bills of materials, component specifications, technical descriptions, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Apply hazardous-area classifications and applicable oil and gas codes and standards.
- Size and lay out instrument cables, junction boxes, conduit, cable trays, and package-mounted instrumentation.
- Prepare specifications for third-party control-system providers and review their deliverables.
- Support equipment assembly, calibration, loop checks, inspections, and factory acceptance testing.
- Provide startup and commissioning assistance at customer sites when needed.
- Support sales and applications teams with technical proposals and control-system requirements.
- Identify opportunities to standardize designs, improve engineering processes, and reduce costs.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- Four or more years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience in manufacturing or engineered equipment.
- Experience designing instrumentation and controls for oil and gas process-equipment packages.
- Experience programming PLCs and HMIs and developing sequence logic and PID control loops.
- Ability to develop and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and logic diagrams.
- Working knowledge of API, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, and IEC standards.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
