Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe IBM Storage Engineer to design, implement, optimize, and maintain our enterprise-level mainframe storage sub-systems. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, integrity, and performance of vast amounts of mission-critical data. You will collaborate closely with Mainframe Systems Programmers, Database Administrators, and Disaster Recovery teams to deliver robust storage solutions and seamless business continuity.
​Key Responsibilities
​Storage Administration & Management
​Configure, provision, and manage IBM DS8000 series (or equivalent enterprise storage) hardware and virtual tape systems (TS7700 / TS7770).
​Maintain and optimize DFSMS components (DFSMSdfp, DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, DFSMSrmm) including management, storage, and data classes.
​Manage Catalog environments, including master and user catalogs, ensuring proper structure, backup, and recovery.
​Perform space management, initialization, and configuration of DASD and tape volumes.
​Performance Tuning & Monitoring
​Monitor storage performance and capacity utilization using tools like RMF, SMF, or Omegamon.
​Identify and resolve I/O bottlenecks and storage-related performance issues to meet strict SLAs.
​Generate regular capacity planning reports and forecast future storage requirements.
​Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery (DR)
​Design, test, and execute robust Disaster Recovery strategies utilizing IBM Copy Services (Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, FlashCopy, GDPS).
​Ensure critical data backup schedules are successfully executed via DFSMShsm or third-party tools (e.g., Innovation Data Processing products like FDR/ABR).
​Lead storage recovery efforts during simulated or real disaster scenarios.
​Required Skills & Qualifications
​Technical Expertise
​Mainframe OS: Deep technical knowledge of the z/OS operating system environment.
​IBM Storage Hardware: Hands-on experience with IBM DS8K DASD and TS7700 Virtual Tape Servers (VTS).
​DFSMS Suite: Advanced proficiency in SMS configuration, HSM migration/recall policies, and RMM/TLMS tape management.
​System Utilities: Strong command of ICKDSF, IDCAMS, IEBCOPY, and JCL.
​Automation/Scripting: Proficiency in REXX or CLIST for automating routine storage tasks.
