Summary

Your role

As a Field Service Technician - East, your mission is to facilitate growth of Power Technique Multibrand's aftermarket. You will report to the VP/Business Line Manager for service. You will diagnose and repair diesel-driven equipment, sell and quote service work directly to customers, manage digital service processes, and act as a trusted technical and commercial partner in the field.

Responsibilities include:

Technical Service & Repairs
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel-driven compressors, generators, and tools with primary focus on diesel engine related issues.
  • Perform preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on customer equipment.
  • Identify root causes of failures and recommend durable repair solutions (not temporary fixes)
  • Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and engine fault codes
  • Ensure all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to OEM standards

Customer Interaction & On-site Support
  • Act as the primary company representative on customer sites
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to operators, site managers, and decision-makers
  • Explain repair needs, risks, and benefits in plain business terms (downtime, cost, reliability)
  • Build trust-based, long-term customer relationships through professional service delivery

Service Sales & Commercial Responsibilities
  • Identify and actively sell repair, overhaul, and preventative maintenance work
  • Prepare and present clear, professional service quotes directly to customers
  • Recommend additional services, parts, or upgrades based on machine condition and usage
  • Follow up on quotes to secure customer approval and close service opportunities
  • Operate effectively in an incentivized, performance-based compensation model

Travel:Extensive travel to customer locations is required, with some overnight travel (up to 80%)
To succeed, you will need

We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement. We value diverse experiences and perspectives and are excited to see what you bring to the role.

A high school diploma or GED is required; technical school degree or equivalent hands-on experience is preferred.

Desired Expertise:
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with diesel engines, preferably working with compressors and generators.
  • Ability to perform fault diagnostics (starting, power loss, overheating, emission issues)
  • Repair fuel, air, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust systems
  • Interpret engine fault codes and service manuals
  • Familiarity with Tier 3/Tier 4 engines, sensors, ECUs, and basic emission components
  • Ability to sell the repair and confidently explain to customers what failed, why it failed, and what happens if it's not repaired
  • Translate technical issues into business impact (downtime, fuel consumption, reliability, safety risk)
  • Ability to build clear, professional quotes on iPad/laptop
  • Propose preventative actions, not just corrective repairs
  • Recognize opportunities for engine overhauls, compressor builds, service kits, upgrades or accessories
  • Comfortable being incentivized on sales results
  • Technical service experience maintaining and repairing compressed air equipment, generators, or equivalent
  • Forklift certification is required (company support available if needed)
  • A valid driver's license is required

Desired Skills:
  • Self-driven and able to work independently in a field service role
  • Confident in identifying, quoting, and selling service work
  • Strong communication skills with a customer-first mindset
  • Strong ownership mentality
  • Diesel engine diagnostics and fault isolation
  • Knowledge of fuel, air intake, exhaust, cooling, and lubrication systems
  • Understanding of engine electronic control systems (ECU, sensors, actuators, fault codes)
  • Ability to troubleshoot starting, power loss, overheating, and shutdown issues
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Basic computer proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word, and business systems)
  • Growth mindset and willingness to develop within the business
In return, we offer

We offer competitive wages and a world-class benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life, short and long-term disability insurance, generous paid time off, and 401(k) matching and automatic company contribution.
