About the Role
Experienced Senior Tableau Developer to join our dynamic data visualization team in Plano, TX. In this onsite, contract role, you will take full end-to-end ownership of Tableau solutions, from architecture setup to performance-optimized dashboard delivery. Consultant thrives on handling large datasets efficiently, driving SQL optimization, and Tableau performance tuning to deliver scalable, high-impact visualizations. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the setup and management of entire Tableau environments, including architecture design, development, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
- Develop and maintain advanced Tableau dashboards and reports, working with complex datasets and ensuring seamless integration with data sources.
- Perform SQL optimization and query tuning on large datasets, leveraging indexing, joins, and efficient data modeling techniques to minimize latency.
- Drive Tableau performance tuning through extract vs live optimization strategies, reducing refresh times and enhancing user experience for high-volume data environments.
- Handle large datasets efficiently by implementing performance optimization best practices, such as data extracts, aggregations, and custom SQL for faster query execution.
- Demonstrate deep data understanding by analyzing data structures, uncovering insights from complex datasets, and applying a data analysis mindset to inform business decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data engineers, analysts, stakeholders) to translate business requirements into scalable Tableau solutions with end-to-end ownership.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks in production environments, ensuring 99%+ uptime for mission-critical dashboards.
- Stay ahead of Tableau innovations, incorporating advanced features like Tableau Prep, Server/Admin, and extensions for AI-driven analytics.
Must-Have Qualifications
Proven Expertise in SQL Optimization & Performance: 5+ years hands-on experience in query tuning, performance optimization, indexing, and joins to handle large datasets efficiently.
Tableau Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Tableau Desktop/Server (2023+ versions), with deep skills in Tableau performance tuning and extract vs live optimization for enterprise-scale deployments.
Deep Data Understanding: Strong grasp of data structures and complex datasets; not just a UI/dashboard developer must possess a data analysis mindset to derive actionable insights.
End-to-End Ownership: Demonstrated ability to architect, develop, optimize, and maintain full Tableau environments from scratch, including data connections, security, and scalability.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with additional BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Qlik) or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Snowflake).
Certifications: Tableau Desktop Specialist/Certified Architect, SQL Server certifications.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and stakeholder collaboration in fast-paced tech environments
