AWS Sr. Engineer or Architect—focus in IAM, security, provisioning, permissions, operational administration and management

Will work Pacific Time Zone hours

Must haves:

• Experience in a start-up or other small company environment where they had to wear a lot of hats and be flexible in responsibilities.
• Demonstrable hands-on AWS cloud operations administration across a multi-account AWS Organizations environment
• Deep practical IAM experience: IAM Identity Center, permission sets, permission boundaries, policy authoring and evaluation
• Service Control Policy design and staged rollout experience
• Experience with AWS Well-Architected Framework
• Identity federation experience with SAML and SCIM, and the judgment to navigate provider-specific limitations
• Infrastructure as Code proficiency — Terraform or CloudFormation — sufficient to convert manually provisioned resources and to manage identity configuration as code
• A working security posture: least privilege as a default instinct, familiarity with CloudTrail, GuardDuty, AWS Config, and Security Hub
• Ability to work directly with engineers across teams with differing working styles, and to communicate constraints and trade-offs clearly
• Initiative. Will identify and drive work without being assigned it, in an environment where no one else is watching the AWS estate full-time.
• Startup temperament. Comfortable with rapidly changing product architecture, including AI-assisted development, and able to re-prioritize without friction.
• Dual-mode working. Genuinely able to balance structured project delivery against reactive support, switching based on priority rather than preference.
• Breadth of audience. Able to serve application engineering, model training, hardware and firmware, and developer infrastructure teams without defaulting to the needs of only one.
• Mission engagement. Interested in supporting a growing team and the work it is doing, not solely in the technical problem.
• Documentation discipline. Willing to write things down, because the engagement's value should not evaporate when it ends.

Plusses (not required)

• DevOps or platform engineering background, particularly building self-service capability for internal engineering teams
• Prior security engineering experience or a security specialization
• Kubernetes familiarity, given the main application workload
• Amazon AI services familiarity, given the model training context
• KMS key policy and grant design experience
• AWS Control Tower or equivalent landing zone and account vending experience
• Experience implementing  the AWS Security Reference Architecture (SRA)
• Relevant certification signal — AWS Certified Security – Specialty, or Solutions Architect – Professional with demonstrated security depth.  AWS CloudOps Engineer also valuable.
