REMOTE - SQL Developer - DIRECT HIRE FULL TIME opportunity!

OLTP focus

POSITION SUMMARY

The SQL Developer will report directly to the Manager of Data Engineering and work within the development team to create and maintain multiple transaction heavy e-commerce sites. This person will be supporting our online platforms and web applications, along with any other development needs across the company.

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with developers and project management in a highly transactional OLTP environment to build new and support existing SQL code, structures, and data

  • Evaluating and performance tuning existing procedures and data
    • Analysis of procedures and data should be approached from the bottom up. Complete rewrites of procedures if needed, and calling out inefficiencies.
  • Analyzing business needs and software requirements to help determine feasibility of work within time and resource constraints
  • Project life cycle involvement - planning, estimates, documentation, development, testing, and deployment
  • Working with like-minded folk, getting things done, and celebrating success

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE (Special skills, knowledge of machines, procedures, etc.)

Experience with designing SQL structures and procedures to support highly transactional applications

  • Experience fine tuning procedures called thousands of times a second, or hundreds of thousands of times a minute.
  • Specific SQL proficiencies needed:
    • Deep understanding of database design principles
    • Ability to review procedures and processes to determine if something is written as efficiently as possible.
    • Knowledge of extract, transform and load (ETL) processes
    • Experience with data modeling
    • Proficiency in writing complex queries that perform under high execution counts
    • Creating tables for relational data, views, stored procedures, functions and indexes
  • Skills that are a plus:
    • SQL Server resource performance monitoring and tuning
    • SQL user security
    • Application development (.NET or similar framework is a plus)
    • Automotive knowledge
  • Administrative experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting with SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, and other related tools
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical parties
  • Dependable, detail oriented, and strong organizational skills

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: 3-4 years of recent experience with MS SQL Server 2012+, preferably in an e-commerce environment.
  • BA/BS in IT, computer science, e-commerce, mathematics, or other related degrees
  • Excellent analytical skills: including being able to quality-assure, clean, and analyze large data sets to draw conclusions and develop recommendations
  • Oral and written communication, interpersonal skills
