IBM Db2 DBA – LDAP, ISVG/ISIM & ISVA/ISAM Exp. || G.C / U.S.C
6+Months
Remote
W2 Only (No C2C)
Role Summary:
Seeking a senior Db2 DBA to plan and execute multi-environment upgrades of IBM Db2 on RHEL for enterprise IAM platforms. The databases support IBM Security Verify Governance (ISVG, formerly ISIM) and IBM Security Verify Access (ISVA, formerly ISAM). The role spans upgrade strategy, hands-on execution, performance/stability validation, and comprehensive documentation/runbooks.
Core Responsibilities:
- Plan, lead, and execute Db2 upgrades across DEV/TEST/UAT/PROD on RHEL, including pre-checks, backup/restore strategy, change windows, and rollback plans.
- Run prerequisite and compatibility checks (db2ckupgrade, db2prereqcheck), rebind packages, RUNSTATS/REORG, and license management (db2licm).
- Coordinate closely with ISVG/ISVA engineering to validate application connectivity, driver/client updates (JDBC/ODBC), and post-upgrade functional testing.
- Tune and validate database/instance parameters (DBM/DB CFG, bufferpools, logging, filesystem layout), and rebaseline performance.
- Harden and validate secure connectivity (SSL/TLS, certificates/GSKit/keystores), and LDAP directory integrations as applicable.
- Ensure HA/DR readiness (HADR/TSA or equivalent), log archiving/roll-forward, and DR tests post-upgrade.
- Automate repeatable steps with shell/Ansible; maintain execution logs, as-built docs, and SOPs.
- Troubleshoot post-upgrade issues (locking, package invalidation, query regressions) and drive remediation.
- Adhere to ITIL change/release processes and coordinate across infra, security, and application teams.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years as a Db2 for LUW DBA on Linux (RHEL) with recent hands-on upgrade/migration experience across multiple environments.
- Proven delivery of Db2 upgrades from 11.x to target LUW release in enterprise settings, including complex rollback and zero/low-downtime strategies.
- Strong skills in backup/restore, log management, HADR/TSA, performance tuning, and security hardening.
- Proficiency with shell scripting (bash/ksh) and automation tooling (e.g., Ansible).
- Experience collaborating with application teams to update Db2 clients/drivers and validate end-to-end connectivity.
- Solid understanding of Linux administration relevant to Db2 (filesystems, ulimits, kernel params).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting IAM stacks: ISVG/ISIM and ISVA/ISAM, and IBM Directory/LDAP.
- Familiarity with SSL/TLS for Db2 connectivity, certificate lifecycle, and GSKit.
- Experience with monitoring and log tooling (e.g., IBM Data Server Manager/DSM, Splunk, Dynatrace).
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent change management discipline.
Deliverables:
- Approved upgrade strategy, runbooks, rollback plans, and cutover schedules for each environment.
- Successful completion of Db2 upgrades in all in-scope environments with documented validation results and performance baselines.
- Updated as-built documentation, configuration inventories, and operational SOPs.
- Knowledge transfer to operations, including on-call procedures and troubleshooting guides.
Environment/Notes:
- Platform: RHEL, Db2 for LUW; databases back ISVG/ISVA workloads.
- Travel/On-call: Occasional after-hours/weekend change windows; on-call during stabilization period.
- Tools: Db2 CLP, db2MOVE/db2LOOK, DSM, Git for runbook/version control, Ansible for automation.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with capacity planning and licensing optimization (AESE/ESE).
- Exposure to containerized or cloud-hosted Linux environments.
- Scripting in Python for advanced automation/reporting.
