Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Azure Cosmos DB Developer / Cosmos DB Engineer with strong hands-on expertise designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting large-scale, mission-critical applications running on Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB.

The ideal candidate will have extensive production experience with Cosmos DB data modeling, partitioning, indexing, RU/s optimization, query performance tuning, Change Feed, multi-region deployments, high availability, disaster recovery, and distributed database architectures.

This role requires a combination of hands-on database development, architecture, performance engineering, production support, troubleshooting, and operational excellence. The candidate will work closely with application, cloud infrastructure, architecture, security, and development teams to deliver highly available, scalable, and cost-efficient Cosmos DB solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of overall software engineering, database development, or data engineering experience.

• 3+ years of hands-on production experience with Azure Cosmos DB.

• Strong experience designing and implementing Azure Cosmos DB solutions for high-volume transactional workloads.

• Deep understanding of NoSQL database architecture and distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and optimize Azure Cosmos DB solutions for high-volume and transactional workloads.

• Define effective Cosmos DB data models, partitioning strategies, indexing policies, and data lifecycle strategies.

• Architect highly available, resilient, scalable, and fault-tolerant Cosmos DB solutions.

• Analyze and optimize RU/s consumption, throughput, latency, query performance, and database resource utilization.

• Perform Cosmos DB query optimization and performance tuning.

• Design and implement effective partition key strategies to avoid hot partitions and improve scalability.

• Develop and optimize indexing policies based on application query patterns.

• Implement and support Cosmos DB Change Feed processing and event-driven workloads.

• Design and support multi-region Cosmos DB deployments and global distribution.

• Establish backup, disaster recovery, high availability, and business continuity strategies.

• Troubleshoot production incidents, performance bottlenecks, database issues, and application integration problems.

• Provide root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.

• Support day-to-day database operations, deployments, capacity planning, configuration changes, schema/data evolution, and incident resolution.

• Partner with application development, infrastructure, cloud, security, and enterprise architecture teams to optimize Cosmos DB integrations.

• Establish operational standards, engineering best practices, governance, and reusable database patterns.

• Develop operational runbooks, architecture documentation, troubleshooting guides, and engineering standards.

• Provide recommendations for cost optimization, scalability, reliability, and long-term platform improvements.

• Monitor database health and establish appropriate performance metrics, alerts, dashboards, and observability practices.

• Mentor development and engineering teams on Cosmos DB best practices, data modeling, partitioning, query optimization, and performance engineering.

• Work with senior leadership and technical stakeholders to communicate database architecture, risks, performance trends, and improvement recommendations.
