Upstream Processing Scientist - II (Associate)

ApTask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Upstream Processing Scientist - II (Associate) with a pharmaceutical company. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity with our client located in West Point, PA. This is an onsite position.

Summary:

This lab-based role is part of a Process R&D team responsible for the development and clinical manufacturing of Drug Substance (DS) for the vaccine pipeline. The scientist will prepare laboratory reagents, solutions, and culture media, and perform lab-scale upstream processing of vaccine products and process intermediates.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare laboratory reagents, solutions and culture media
• Perform lab scale upstream processing of vaccine products and process intermediates (including possible work with Biosafety Level 2 organisms)
• Setup process equipment for lab scale experiments
• Perform in-process monitoring assays
• Analyze, collate, track, and report data back to client staff members
• Maintain records and test results following good laboratory practices (GLP)
• Work independently and efficiently
• Document work clearly and perform tests accurately
• Communicate effectively with client staff members
• Follow laboratory procedures as required to perform the above tasks, and escalate deviations/issues to client staff members in a timely fashion

Requirements:

• B.S./Masters in Biology, Bio/chemistry, Bio/chemical Engineering, or related science
• B.S with 1-5 years of relevant laboratory experience in fermentation and/or cell culture OR Master's with 0-3 years relevant laboratory experience
• General laboratory skills, experience with aseptic manipulations, pipettes, and weighing
• Experience in culturing bacterial, microbial or mammalian cells (plating, shake flasks, bioreactor work)
• Experience with upstream routine assays and performing basic lab scale assays (pH, optical density, etc)
• Highly computer literate with experience using formulas and linking spreadsheets in Excel
• Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivated, adaptable, and displays a positive attitude
• Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies

Desired skills:

• Experience with bioreactors for upstream bioprocessing work (Ambr250, stainless steel reactors, glass bioreactors, single use bioreactors)

Pay range: Up to $43.72 per Hour
