Bits & Bytes Technology Solutions is seeking a Senior Tester for the New York State Department of Labor's UI Job Assist Tool (JAT) project in Albany, NY. The project develops and integrates secure APIs and Model Context Protocol (MCP) services between the core UI system of record and an AI-enabled Job Assist Tool. The Senior Tester performs functional, integration, API, microservice, AI-tool, and MCP validation to ensure reliable and secure read/write data exchange.
Day-to-day: develop and execute functional and integration test scenarios for the AI-enabled UI Job Assist Tool; test read/write REST APIs and Java microservices exchanging data between the core UI system and the Job Assist Tool; perform MCP validation (server/client interactions, tool invocation, request/response handling, error conditions); validate business rules and data-integrity controls that prevent corrupt or unapproved AI-generated data from being written back to the UI system; execute positive, negative, boundary, regression, and end-to-end tests across APIs, microservices, MCP components, and AI integrations; create and maintain test cases, test data, traceability, defect documentation, and test execution results; use API testing tools to validate REST endpoints, payloads, schemas, authentication, error handling, and response behavior; query backend data stores to confirm accurate processing and persistence; collaborate with Programmers, Data Architects, Cloud Engineers, vendor teams, and business SMEs on defects; support performance and scalability testing for ~1,500 concurrent users and document-heavy processing; validate security-sensitive integration behavior in a regulated UI environment; support knowledge transfer to State staff.
Mandatory Qualification: 60-84 months (Senior) — candidate is able to work independently, without assistance, and provides guidance to others. May have an advanced education. Tester: conducts automated and manual tests to ensure the software created/upgraded performs as necessary and meets user requirements; develops and maintains user and technical documentation and project process documentation for application teams; understands the view of applications and/or technology and is able to put procedures in a logical sequence.
Requested Qualifications:
1. 60 months of experience performing functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing of enterprise web applications and distributed systems.
2. 36 months of experience testing REST APIs and microservices, including request/response payloads, schemas, authentication, error handling, and backend data validation.
3. 36 months of experience testing Java-based enterprise applications or services and using SQL to validate backend processing and data integrity.
4. 12 months experience testing or validating AI-enabled applications or integrations, including functional validation of AI outputs and data exchanged with systems of record.
5. 12 months experience validating Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, clients, tools, or integrations, including expected and error-path behavior.
6. 24 months experience using API/service testing tools such as Postman, SoapUI, JMeter, or comparable tools.
7. 24 months experience creating test plans, test cases, traceability, defect documentation, and test execution summaries in an Agile delivery environment.
