Job Description:
Job Title: Optical Assembly Test Technician's (1st Shift)
Job Location: Milpitas, CA
Work Schedule: Onsite
Shift: Monday - Friday 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM (plus 2 hrs. OT daily) 10 Hrs.
Pay Rate: $33/hr, Based on experience.
Job Description:
Maintain test tooling, sending/receiving tooling to complete daily work activities (3rd party calibration)
Performs the build, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of mechanical assemblies at a system level.
Determines and may develop test specifications, methods and procedures from blueprints, drawings and diagrams.
Tests and troubleshoots assemblies and/or final systems.
May complete rework on assemblies and/or systems as a result of testing.
Prepares technical reports summarizing findings and recommending solutions to technical problems.
May assist in the selection and set-up of specialized test equipment.
Requirements: Typically requires a minimum of 2 - 4 years of related experience.
Requires experience in testing digital and/or analog systems
Ability to read complicated drawings, mathematics, handbook formulas, and a variety of testing and measuring instruments
An AA degree, military technical training or their equivalent vocational training is required
Must Have Skills:
Must have a mechanical background
Optical glass alignment experience (not looking for fibre optics)
Optical alignment benches
Doing mechanical assembly on a bench, align optics by shining laser lights
Hands on alignment on tools, assembly experience
Degree is not a hard requirement (preferred)
No degree 3 to 5 years of mechanical background experience
Cleanroom job (95% of the job)
Lifting up to 50 pounds (anything over 50 pounds requires 2 person or tools)
MS Office Excel, Work, Outlook
Mechanical, automotive, aerospace
Role Requirements & Hiring Criteria Summary:
Core Skill Requirements
Mechanical Background (Most Important)
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Hands-on experience using basic mechanical tools (e.g., calipers, hand tools).
Experience with mechanical assembly, alignment work, or bench level work.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
Optics Experience (Very Important but Specific)
Experience with optical glass alignment (not fiber optics).
Work involves:
Aligning optical components.
Shining laser light through optics to achieve alignment.
Bench alignment procedures.
Some troubleshooting throughout the alignment process.
General Technical Skills:
Basic software skills
Microsoft Excel and Word.
Occasional oscilloscope use but not a primary requirement.
Education Requirements:
A degree is NOT required.
Candidates without a degree should have:
3 5 years of relevant hands on, mechanical/assembly experience.
If the candidate has a degree:
Mechanical engineering is most common on the team.
Degree holders can be entry level candidates, as long as they show:
Hands-on interest.
Mechanical mindset.
Some real-world experience (projects, internships, hobbies, etc.).
Other acceptable engineering backgrounds:
Aerospace engineering.
Automotive/mechanical tech backgrounds (shows hands-on mechanical capability).
Work History Expectations
Candidates should not have:
Excessive job-hopping.
Jumping from agency to agency.
Very short-term roles one after another.
Preferred:
Stable work history demonstrating responsibility and reliability.
Gaps in employment:
Minor/recent gaps (a few months) are OK not disqualifying.
Clean Room & Physical Requirements:
Job is 95% inside a clean room.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Anything above 50 lbs requires a two-person lift or proper tooling.
Job Duties:
Mechanical assembly on a workstation or bench.
Optical alignment using lasers and precision tools.
Troubleshooting when alignment or mechanical issues occur.
Some weekend/overtime work is preferred, especially for new temps.
Many team members volunteer for extra shifts for extra income.
Candidate Experience Examples That Count:
Mechanical assembly roles.
Automotive mechanical work.
Hands-on engineering technician roles.
Semiconductor equipment technicians (only if they troubleshoot tools not just operate).
Tesla or similar manufacturing experience has been successful in the past.
Interview Process:
Interview Duration
2-hour onsite interview total per candidate.
Format
4 interviewers:
The hiring manager + another manager + 2 leads.
Four 30-minute interview rounds (one with each interviewer).
Ideally run 4 candidates back-to-back during a 2-hour block.
