Overview
We have an immediate need for a senior, hands-on EDP Data Architect to lead enterprise data architecture, modeling standards, and the conformed data model across the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP). The EDP Data Architect will own and maintain architecture standards and canonical models that solution architects and engineering teams use to deliver data products across marketing, customer, and other business domains. This role sits within the Platform Enablement team and partners closely with Solution Architects, data engineers, and data governance stakeholders to operationalize the platform’s medallion architecture, data catalog, and data product marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, document, and maintain enterprise data architecture, canonical (conformed) data models, and modeling standards across the EDP.
• Establish and enforce data modeling best practices, naming conventions, metadata standards, and data lineage expectations.
• Design and govern the conformed data model for shared enterprise entities (customer, product, sales, etc.), ensuring consistency across domains and use cases.
• Work hands-on with data engineers to design schemas, ingestion patterns, transformation logic, and gold-layer consumption models consistent with medallion architecture.
• Drive the design and rollout of the platform’s data catalog, business and technical metadata, and taxonomy to support discoverability and governance.
• Collaborate with Solution Architects to translate enterprise standards into solution-level designs and validate adherence during implementation.
• Support migration of workloads from legacy on-premises EDW to Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), ensuring data model alignment and minimal business disruption.
• Advise on performance, partitioning, and storage strategies on Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, BigLake, Cloud Storage), and on optimization for analytical queries.
• Define data quality, lineage, and observability requirements; partner with governance and dataops teams to operationalize monitoring and remediation.
• Provide architecture reviews, mentorship, and hands-on guidance for data product development and implementation.
• Participate in roadmap planning for EDP capabilities, contribute architecture artifacts, and present technical recommendations to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data architecture, data modeling, or related roles, with proven hands-on experience.
• Strong experience designing enterprise data models (conceptual, logical, physical) and conformed models across multiple domains.
• Demonstrated experience with medallion or layered data architectures.
• Deep experience with Google Cloud Platform data services (BigQuery, BigLake, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, Data Catalog) and cloud-native data engineering.
• Experience migrating data workloads from on-prem EDW to cloud-based platforms.
• Proficiency in SQL, data modeling tools (Erwin, ER/Studio, dbt, or similar), and data transformation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of metadata management, data catalogs, data lineage, and governance practices.
• Experience with data product thinking, data mesh concepts, or platform enablement for multiple data consumers.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to present complex architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to enforce standards while enabling solution teams to deliver against business requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with BigQuery performance optimization, partitioning/clustering strategies, and cost control techniques.
• Familiarity with dbt for semantic modeling, transformations, and testing.
• Experience with data catalog tools and metadata standards (e.g., Data Catalog on Google Cloud Platform, Amundsen, Atlas).
• Hands-on background in data quality frameworks and observability tooling (Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, OpenLineage).
• Prior experience in retail, customer, or marketing analytics domains.
• Certifications: Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.

Contract Details

• Contract type: Senior/lead-level contractor with immediate start.
• Duration: Initial term (negotiable) with possible extensions based on performance and program needs.
• Location: Remote or hybrid; works closely with Platform Enablement and Solution Architect teams; some overlap with U.S. business hours may be required.
