Overview: Our client is seeking a Lead Extrusion Developer that will be responsible for guiding, developing, and managing the performance of extrusion developers within the department. This role leads all phases of the New Product Development (NPD) process and ensures alignment with established quality, performance, time, and cost standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and a passion for driving innovation in extrusion tooling and processes.
Primary Responsibilities: - Direct and support extrusion developers, promoting a collaborative and growth-focused environment.
- Assign development resources for New Product Introduction (NPI) extrusion tooling projects.
- Oversee efficient project execution and the timely transition from development to production.
- Mentor team members and foster continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Design, develop, and optimize extrusion dies and downstream cooling tooling using industry-leading methods.
- Set up and operate extrusion equipment as required during development.
- Ensure completion of setup specifications, machine parameters, and production documentation.
- Validate rebuilt tooling and ensure accurate documentation within the ERP system.
- Serve as a forward-thinking advocate for next-generation extrusion technologies.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement new development techniques, including the use of AI-driven optimization tools.
- Lead scrap-reduction initiatives and other efforts that improve operational efficiency and reduce waste.
- Provide accurate tooling and processing estimates to Sales & Estimating for customer quotations.
- Work closely with Engineering and Production teams to ensure consistent standards and successful product launches.
- Support companywide Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a Technical Discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Coursework in Plastics Technology preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in profile extrusion tooling development (required).
- Experience with extrusion equipment, lathes, mills, grinders, and process machinery (preferred).
- Knowledge of Polymer Science is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions independently and under time constraints.
- Excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to set up and operate extrusion equipment and related manufacturing tools.
