Position: Java Mobile & Platform Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL (Remote)

Duration: Contract opportunity

Job Description:

• Provide architecture and technical leadership across mobile, backend, and database components, ensuring end to end solution quality.
• Lead technical design sessions, produce and review design artifacts, and enforce engineering standards and best practices.
• Guide Ionic/Angular development, including component architecture, state management, performance optimization, and UI consistency.
• Lead the design and implementation of Java/Spring Boot microservices, including security, resilience, and scalability patterns.
• Oversee integration with the Miovision API for real time traffic signal data, including error handling, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Support implementation of NLP and voice interaction, multilingual audio, GPS based services, and haptic feedback within the mobile application.
• Conduct regular code reviews, mentor developers, and provide hands on support in debugging complex issues across the stack.
• Ensure compliance with accessibility standards using WAVE and security standards using Coverity and related tools.
• Collaborate with product owners and business analysts to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.
• Identify, track, and manage technical debt; recommend refactoring and optimizations to improve reliability and performance.
• Contribute to CI/CD practices, build automation, and environment configuration in partnership with DevOps and infrastructure teams.

Required qualifications

• Strong, recent experience with Ionic Framework and cross platform mobile application development (iOS and Android).
• Advanced skills in Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Hibernate in production environments.
• Expert level experience with Angular (v18 preferred) and modern frontend practices (TypeScript, RxJS, responsive UI, Bootstrap).
• Proven experience designing and optimizing solutions on Oracle Database 19c, including schema design and query tuning.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical teams or workstreams, setting engineering standards, and making architecture decisions.
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design and integration, CI/CD pipelines, and secure coding practices.
• Hands on experience with mobile device capabilities including GPS, NLP/voice interaction, and haptic feedback.
• Experience working with accessibility and security compliance tools (e.g., WAVE, Coverity or similar).
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience, including at least 2+ years in a technical lead or equivalent role.

Preferred skills

• Experience with real time data processing and streaming integrations.
• Familiarity with traffic/transportation, smart city, or public sector solutions.
• Experience in highly collaborative, multi vendor or government client environments.
