Platform Engineer — Redis & Kubernetes (Contract)

About the role
We’re hiring a Platform Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team to build, operate, and scale shared data and caching platforms used by multiple enterprise applications. You’ll own Redis-based caching infrastructure and Kubernetes workloads, drive automation, and improve reliability and performance across VM and container environments.

What you’ll do

• Deploy, configure, maintain, and support Redis and distributed caching services on VMs and Kubernetes.
• Operate Kubernetes workloads using Helm, manage pods/deployments/services/namespaces, and apply container orchestration best practices.
• Monitor platform health, cache performance, and system reliability using observability and logging tools; create alerts and dashboards.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, platform, application, and caching issues with engineering teams; lead blameless postmortems.
• Execute upgrades, patching, backups, recovery, and routine maintenance procedures.
• Automate infrastructure and configuration management using Ansible and scripting (Bash, Python).
• Design and implement scalability, HA, and performance optimization improvements for caching layers.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational runbooks; participate in on-call rotations and incident response.

Must-have qualifications

• 3+ years of Linux system administration experience.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (pods, deployments, services, namespaces) and container lifecycle management.
• Practical experience with Redis or another distributed key-value cache (configuration, persistence, replication, eviction policies).
• Experience with automation/configuration management tools (Ansible) and scripting (Bash, Python).
• Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience deploying and managing apps with Helm charts.
• Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Datadog, etc.).
• Background in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of HA, resilience, and scalability patterns for distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).

Nice-to-have

• Redis enterprise features, clustering, or managed Redis services.
• Certification(s) in cloud, Kubernetes, DevOps, or Linux.
• Prior experience supporting enterprise-scale caching in production.
