Description:
About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Laser Technician / Field Service Engineer to support the calibration, testing, and maintenance of advanced optical and electro-mechanical systems. This role involves working with high-power laser systems and precision instrumentation in both laboratory and field environments.

Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel both domestically (2X / yr) and internationally (UK 1x /yr.), travel arrangements and expenses are covered.

What You'll Do
  • Calibrate and perform functional testing on complex optical and electro-mechanical systems
  • Align lasers and optical assemblies using precision tools and instrumentation
  • Disassemble and reassemble laser systems down to subassembly and component levels
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain high-power optical components (e.g., mirrors, beam splitters, polarizers, waveplates, crystals)
  • Perform bonding/debonding of optical components and install into retaining structures
  • Conduct system calibration, validation, and burn-in testing
  • Analyze test data and communicate findings, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Troubleshoot and repair fielded systems; document resolution steps and outcomes
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation and reports
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and corrective measures
  • Use measurement and diagnostic tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, CCD cameras, multimeters, microscopes) to validate system performance
  • Safely handle equipment and materials, including lifting items up to 40 lbs.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience in optics, photonics, or a related technical field
  • Experience aligning lasers and working with complex optical systems
  • Proficiency with precision laboratory tools and working in controlled/clean environments
  • Experience with diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, CCD cameras, and laser systems
  • Working knowledge of electro-mechanical assembly processes
  • Basic engineering understanding, including blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing
  • Experience with measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, microscopes)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (e.g., root cause analysis, data interpretation)
  • Intermediate proficiency in math, statistics, and data analysis tools (e.g., spreadsheets)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Programming or scripting experience
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) or design of experiments (DOE)
  • Experience supporting field service operations
