Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager, Operating Room (OR) to support the daily operations and clinical leadership of the assigned surgical/operating room department.

The Assistant Nurse Manager will help oversee nursing staff, coordinate patient-care activities, allocate resources, promote quality and safety standards, and support operational and clinical initiatives. This position requires a strong nursing leader who can work effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 hospital environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong OR/perioperative nursing experience, demonstrated leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to safe, standardized, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of best-practice models, patient-care delivery systems, and clinical practice standards.

  • Assist with daily supervision and coordination of nursing and clinical team activities.

  • Allocate staff, equipment, supplies, and other resources appropriately to support patient care.

  • Provide clinical leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.

  • Delegate duties appropriately according to staff competency and scope of practice.

  • Support staff development, training, competency, and professional growth.

  • Monitor compliance with organizational policies, clinical standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Support patient and employee safety initiatives and continuous quality improvement.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to achieve safe and effective patient outcomes.

  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, productivity, utilization, and operational performance.

  • Monitor clinical and operational data and take appropriate action based on performance metrics.

  • Support quality, risk management, workplace safety, and regulatory readiness activities.

  • Assist with survey readiness, mock rounds, audits, documentation, and corrective actions.

  • Support emergency preparedness activities and ensure staff understand emergency procedures.

  • Participate in strategic and cross-functional projects focused on quality, efficiency, safety, and operational improvement.

  • Identify operational challenges and recommend process improvements.

  • Support the implementation and improvement of technology and operational processes.

  • Help ensure appropriate staffing and resource utilization while maintaining quality patient care.

  • Maintain clinical expertise and nursing competencies required for the role.

  • Perform clinical nursing duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in patient care delivery.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a leadership role, with or without direct reports.

  • Associate degree or higher in Nursing, Healthcare, Business, or a directly related field with at least 2 years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or a directly related field; OR

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in business operations, clinical healthcare, or a directly related field.

  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License required at hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operating Room / OR nursing experience.

  • Perioperative or surgical services experience.

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, Charge RN, Clinical Nurse Leader, or similar clinical leadership role.

  • Experience supervising nursing teams in a hospital environment.

  • Knowledge of quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management.

  • Experience with staffing, resource allocation, productivity, and performance management.

  • Familiarity with The Joint Commission and hospital survey-readiness activities.

  • Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment

This is an onsite leadership position in Sacramento, California, supporting a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week patient-care environment. The position requires approximately 5% travel and may require flexibility to support operational and clinical needs.
