Description:
- Looking for a strong candidate with Group Policy Management, SCCM, Intune, Azure, AD, and Desktop Support
- Ideal candidates should possess educational and personal achievement along with a passion for technology. Healthcare industry knowledge is not a prerequisite, but an interest in the application of technology to support a hospital environment is a must. Providing excellent customer support and quickly learning new technologies will be necessary in this position.
- Expect to support applications, desktops, and scripts throughout their life cycles. An ideal candidate will be a self-starter, personable, have exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and an unrelenting drive to implement effective solutions.
- This role will communicate daily with Tufts Leadership as well as technical tower leads and will require strong communication skills.
- Responsibilities
- The Senior Desktop Engineer is responsible for managing and supporting desktop systems and infrastructure within the firm, to include GPO policies, and desktop compliance.
- This role requires a strong technical background and expertise in desktop operating systems, software deployment, system administration and advanced troubleshooting
- The Senior Desktop Engineer will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure the stability, security, and optimal performance of desktop systems, while also providing technical guidance and support to end-users
- Manage and maintain desktop operating systems and software applications
- Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot desktop hardware and peripherals
- Develop and implement desktop deployment and management processes, including imaging, software packaging, and patch management
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop and enforce desktop security measures and policies
- Provide technical support to end-users, addressing software and hardware-related inquiries and issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to desktop systems, software, and hardware
- Conduct system performance analysis and optimization to ensure the efficient operation of desktop systems
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in desktop engineering, recommending innovative solutions to improve desktop systems and user experience
- Develop and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures and knowledge base articles, for desktop engineering processes and solutions
- Collaborate with vendors and external partners to evaluate and implement new desktop technologies and solutions
- This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role
- Infrastructure Management: Designing and maintaining desktop operating systems (Windows 11, macOS) and endpoint management environments.
- System Deployment: Creating and managing system images, software packaging, and automated patch management using tools like SCCM, Intune, or Jamf.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Serving as the final escalation point (Tier 3 support) for complex technical issues that Level 1 and 2 technicians cannot resolve.
- Security & Compliance: Developing and enforcing desktop security policies, including endpoint security and vulnerability management.
- Strategic Planning: Leading IT projects such as enterprise-wide OS migrations, hardware refreshes, and technology evaluations.
- Leadership: Mentoring junior IT staff and documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education: Most roles require a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, though extensive experience (typically 5+ years) is often prioritized.
Key Technical Proficiencies:
- Management Tools: SCCM, Microsoft Intune, Active Directory, and Azure.
- Scripting: PowerShell or Python for automating repetitive tasks.
- OS Expertise: Deep knowledge of Windows 10/11 and macOS administration.
- Certifications: Common credentials include CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, and ITIL Foundation.
