Job Description

The purpose of the Nuclear Safety Analysis Manager position is to work as part of the Engineering management team to lead and develop a dynamic team of engineers that are at the forefront of bringing new nuclear technology to market.

The Safety Analysis Manager guides the team in evaluating the safety and operability of their systems, including criticality safety considerations, supporting the design optimization process to reduce risk and ensure safety. 

Areas of responsibility for this team include radiological safety, chemical safety, criticality safety, and fire hazard analysis.

Team activities include conducting hazard evaluations, maintaining the SEINE CLIENT safety analysis, performing analyses to support the design evaluations, and supporting NRC licensing activities.

The base salary range for this position is $105,000 - $145,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Nuclear Safety Analysis Manager:

  • Selects, develops, evaluates, and leads engineers who support the design of new nuclear technology.
  • Develops and maintains process hazard analyses for SEINE CLIENT systems (e.g., Hazard and Operability Analyses [HAZOPs] and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses [FMEAs]).
  • Maintains the SEINE CLIENT Safety Analysis supporting the Chrysalis project
  • Maintains the SEINE CLIENT Criticality Safety Program supporting the Chrysalis project, including the criticality safety training and qualification.
  • Oversees team performing radiological and chemical dose calculations for normal and off-normal releases, nuclear criticality safety evaluations and analyses, and fire hazard analyses.
  • Support NRC licensing activities, including providing responses to requests for additional information (RAIs), participating in regulatory audits and public meetings, and presenting to regulators as needed.
  • Develops and maintains the group budget and schedule, maintaining a plan to accurately predict milestones and resource loading. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  •  Demonstrated knowledge in process hazard evaluation and safety analysis, including quantitative consequence analysis, within the nuclear or chemical industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Ability to lead a team to find an optimized solution, considering different viewpoints and priorities.
  • Direct and open communication style, showing respect to all individuals and their ideas.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire staff to perform at their highest level.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/activities, prioritizing them in a way that contributes most to Project success.
  • Must be skilled in the use of Microsoft desktop software

Preferences:

  • Five or more years of management experience.
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry design, operations, and regulatory requirements.
  • 10 CFR Part 50 and 10 CFR Part 70 accident analysis experience.
  • Familiarity with nuclear criticality safety standards, practices, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience performing MCNP 
  • Familiarity with FMEA or HAZOP hazards analysis methods

Working Conditions and Physical Effort: 

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., standing or sitting) for extended periods.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. 
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. 
  • Although flexible work hours may be available, shift-work schedules may be required, and extended hours will sometimes be necessary to complete required work assignment.
