Position DescriptionPerforms advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:- Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.
- Assists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.
- Performs advanced and specialized design work.
- Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic
presentations that include distinctive design features. - Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic
problems. - Prepares field notes.
- Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
- Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
- Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience: 6 years drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
- Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
- Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
