Programmer - REST API & Web Services Developer

Location: On-site in Augusta, ME (must live within 60 miles / ~1 hour)

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced backend developer to build and maintain RESTful web services, integrate vendor systems, and support a transition from on-premises systems to cloud environments. This position focuses heavily on system interoperability, secure data exchange, and API-driven development.

Top Skills

• Java development
• Webservices / REST API experience
• Cloud computing (AWS, Azure, or similar)

Required Qualifications

• Hands-on experience developing RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency in modern backend languages (Java strongly preferred; .NET or Python also considered).
• Experience integrating third-party APIs.
• Familiarity with authentication/security protocols (OAuth2, JWT, SSL/TLS).
• Experience in on-prem and cloud environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience in cloud migration or modernization projects
• Knowledge of microservices
• Performance tuning and secure development patterns

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Integrate internal systems with external vendor platforms.
• Analyze requirements and develop scalable technical solutions.
• Ensure system performance, reliability, and security best practices.
• Troubleshoot API and integration issues across environments.
• Participate in architectural discussions and cloud modernization planning.
• Support cloud migration efforts, including refactoring and optimization

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Augusta, ME.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.66 - $51.11/hr.
