Position Summary The Process Engineer Leader is responsible for developing, improving, and supporting manufacturing processes to ensure quality, delivery, and cost targets are met. This role provides technical leadership on the shop floor, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports new product introductions (NPI) from concept through full-scale production.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes, workflows, and layouts for quality, efficiency, and ergonomics.
- Create and maintain process documentation (work instructions, standard operating procedures, control plans).
- Define and optimize process parameters, cycle times, and takt times to meet production targets.
- Lead process planning and readiness for new product launches, including tooling, equipment, and documentation.
- Support prototype builds and pilot runs; collect and analyze data to validate process capability.
- Identify and execute cost-reduction projects while maintaining or improving quality and delivery.
- Specify, justify, and implement new equipment, fixtures, and tooling to support production requirements.
- Ensure processes comply with applicable standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Support internal and external audits; lead process-related corrective and preventive actions.
- Serve as a technical mentor to manufacturing engineers, technicians, and operators.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional project teams and report progress to management.
- Provide training on new processes, equipment, and standards.
- Use data-driven methods to prioritize improvement opportunities and justify capital expenditures.
- Prepare technical reports, project charters, and presentations for stakeholders and leadership.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Five + years of related experience.
- Experience in project or team leadership with desire for future leadership responsibilities.
- Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes and related process controls along with materials.
- Ability to work independent of direct supervision.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with demonstrated strong leadership of team members.
- Ability to effectively communicate with leadership and team members.
- Demonstrated effort toward self-improvement by gaining new knowledge/skills and accepting new assignments.
- Demonstrated ability to assume increasing responsibility.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and/or verbal procedures, processes, and instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related Engineering field or business.
- Experience with Situational Leadership.
- Strong emotional intelligence.
- Experience with leading High Performance Teams or formal/informal leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex process improvements.
- Hands-on experience with automated equipment, fixtures, testing, and tooling design is highly desirable.
