Clinical Trial Division (CTD) AI Lead (Remote - EST)
We are looking to hire a candidate with the skills sets mentioned and experience for one of our clients within the pharmaceutical Industry. This is a 6+ month contracting role, with potential for extension. This is a Remote role, with a preference for candidates in the EST zone to facilitate coordination with teams across EST, PST, and EU time zones.
Role Summary:
You are the AI forward-deployed engineer for Clinical Trial Division (CTD) operations within Thermo Fisher's Pharma Services Group. You identify, validate, build, and ship AI capabilities that improve day-to-day clinical trial services workflows - then drive adoption so they become part of how teams operate. You deliver hands-on using AWS, Dataiku, Databricks, and OpenAI, and you drive ChatGPT adoption across CTD roles.
You balance short-term value delivery with long-term infrastructure maturity. As enterprise data/AI foundations and patterns evolve (for example: MCP server patterns, A2A approaches, reusable agent frameworks, governance, scalable integrations), you create a vision and execution plan that bridges today's constraints to a scalable target state.
Key Responsibilities:
- Map CTD AI opportunities: Identify use cases across CTD workflows (knowledge retrieval, document acceleration, exception management support, operational insights, coordination/handoff support, client-response acceleration).
- Build and ship: Deliver POCs/MVPs using AWS/Databricks/Dataiku/OpenAI, integrating with operational systems, data, and document repositories.
- Roadmap and operating cadence: Own a roadmap and drive an execution cadence (demos, stakeholder reviews, adoption checkpoints, impact tracking).
- Balance quick wins vs foundations: Deliver immediate workflow improvements while shaping requirements and reusable patterns that will scale as IT infrastructure matures (integration patterns, evaluation/monitoring, orchestration approaches, governance-aligned design).
- Vision and transition plan: Define the CTD AI north star and a staged path from POCs to reusable capabilities to scaled delivery.
- Adoption-first delivery: Convert solutions into practical assets - templates, prompt kits, role-based guides, and training - so adoption is built in.
- Risk/controls awareness: Incorporate appropriate controls for privacy/security and traceability expectations where needed.
- Stay current and apply responsibly: Keep up with the rapidly advancing AI landscape and selectively introduce relevant techniques/tooling that are safe, measurable, and adoptable in CTD operations.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of clinical trial services/operations (or adjacent clinical operations workflows) and the ability to translate CTD work into deployable AI solutions.
- Primary Stack: AWS, Dataiku, Databricks, and OpenAI.
- Hands-on capability building production-minded prototypes (Python/SQL, AWS, Databricks and/or Dataiku, and OpenAI).
- Applied GenAI experience (RAG, evaluation, guardrails, workflow integration, adoption enablement).
- Strong ChatGPT adoption embedded in CTD routines.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to influence as a senior IC.
- Demonstrated ability to balance immediate business outcomes with long-term scalable capability building.
- Experience working with privacy/security constraints and controlled documents in clinical contexts.
- Experience supporting globally distributed operational teams.
- A CTD AI opportunity map and roadmap adopted by CTD stakeholders.
