Summary

Product Designer, Partnerships Design System

The Card Partnerships Design Team operates at the unique intersection of Capital One and the brands of our partners, including REI, T-Mobile, Williams-Sonoma, Bass Pro Shops, and Neiman Marcus. We are currently seeking a Design Systems-focused Product Designer to lead the evolution of our system within this ecosystem.

In this role, you will oversee the Card Partnerships Design System, ensuring that we expand our product feature set in a methodical, systematic way. We are looking for a designer to define and deploy consistent, reusable components and patterns across our portfolio. You will not just build the system, but empower fellow design and product partners with the documentation needed to leverage, contribute to, and evolve our library.

You will partner cross-functionally to build tools that help our servicing associates assist customers, as well as experiences that allow customers to self-service. Whether in-store, on the web, or in-app, your work will ensure our experiences seamlessly bridge Capital One's infrastructure with our partners' distinct identities.

What You'll Do:

As a leader and maker, you'll be asked to handle responsibilities, including:

Strategy & Planning
  • Product alignment - creating direction and facilitating product partnership while managing ambiguity and shifting priorities
  • Prioritization - engaging in strategic portfolio planning to set the product and design roadmap for our agent servicing platform and its associated design system.
  • User-centered - embracing and advocating for an experience mindset, reminding us all to focus on the user, even if our eyes are on the platform

Discovering & Delivering
  • Research - leading traditional and non-traditional research methodologies across the product delivery lifecycle, from foundational user research throughout usability testing, as-needed.
  • Collaboration - partnering with technology, product, and the business to uncover needs and translate them into engaging, simple, and scalable design patterns, as well as assembling those patterns into intuitive end-to-end product experiences.
  • Storytelling - evangelizing the value of a systems-mindset, influencing partner adoption and making it easy to realize business impact
  • Form & Function - demonstrating robust knowledge of UX best-practices, having a sharp and highly critical eye for visual design, and balancing those with what is needed functionally and what can be built realistically. Understanding where, when, and how to weave in a balanced application of interaction and visual design tactics to achieve the best outcome.
  • Quality - ensuring alignment to patterns and best practices through oversight and periodic experience review, and working closely with tech teams to ensure that what is built aligns to what was designed.
  • Guidance - becoming the subject matter expert on pattern usage and approved practices, and guiding peer and partner teams to follow those patterns and guidelines in their own product contributions.
  • Building - delivering reusable components and patterns via high-fidelity design assets for acceptance, development, and delivery to market in partnership with technology colleagues.

Basic Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience in a Product Design role
  • At least 2 years of experience with design and prototyping tools such as Figma

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience collaborating with product, tech and business partners
  • Experience working in heavily regulated, data heavy problem spaces
  • Experience working with an established design system
